This one is not a huge surprise as there's been speculation, even by some on this board.
Re: Around the League: Playoffs
This one I don't understand. What did they expect him to do with all those injuries? Worse than Hornacek getting fired for sure.Ring_Wanted wrote:https://twitter.com/wojverticalnba/status/728948370581000192 This one is not a huge surprise as there's been speculation, even by some on this board.
Then there's this...
It is unlikely that Joerger, 42, will be out of work for long. The Sacramento Kings have made him their No. 1 candidate and are planning to move quickly to secure a deal with him, league sources said. The Grizzlies sidestepped what could’ve been a lengthy negotiation with Sacramento about what would’ve turned out to be a conditional second-round pick as compensation for hiring Joerger, league sources said.

I guess it's starting to make sense. It looks like Joerger didn't want to be in Memphis for whatever reason.Joerger’s repeated and public criticisms of the front office wore on ownership and management, league sources said. Memphis fired Lionel Hollins in 2013 to promote Joerger to head coach, delivering him a contending roster and a premium first-time head-coaching job. After his first season, Joerger tried to make a financial score and become head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves – only to return to Memphis on a multi-year deal. Two years later, Joerger was pushing again to leave Memphis unless he was awarded another long-term deal, league sources said. That desire led to his dismissal, sources said.

Dang, we are SO lucky we didn't get stuck with a bum like Joerger! I'm so glad we immediately hired Watson without waiting at all or interviewing anyone!
Re: Around the League: Playoffs
We're going to need a dead horse emoji around these parts. You have made your point about the Watson hiring AND the Knight trade, repeatedly. We get it. You hate both moves. Most of us do. Hammering the point home daily isn't going to do anything for you or us.Mori Chu wrote:Dang, we are SO lucky we didn't get stuck with a bum like Joerger! I'm OK with it once after every coach firing
Re: Around the League: Playoffs
Anyone thinks Timberwolves are sorry they hired Thibs so soon? I know Thibs is good, but I guess Vogel would be interesting for them, Joerger as well.

Yawn. I think I need a break from this place.Mori Chu wrote:Dang, we are SO lucky we didn't get stuck with a bum like Joerger! I'm so glad we immediately hired Watson without waiting at all or interviewing anyone!
Re: Around the League: Playoffs
Sorry guys. I'm just bummed about how the franchise is run and I express it with these running joke posts. Didn't mean to frustrate everybody. I do want Watson to succeed and hope he will be a good coach.
Re: Around the League: Playoffs
I think they're pretty happy they locked up Thibs. I bet he would have gotten a ton of interest from these other teams that fired their coaches, and Minny is probably glad that they don't have to be in a bidding war over him right now.Hermen wrote:Anyone thinks Timberwolves are sorry they hired Thibs so soon? Re: Around the League: Playoffs
They are ecstatic and they should be. He's going to be great there. Apparently Glen Taylor wanted Thibs for a long time while Flip wanted Joerger though. It's kind of sad how it played out.Mori Chu wrote:I think they're pretty happy they locked up Thibs. Re: Around the League: Playoffs
After reading the stories, I would not want him at all. He regularly asked his boss to interview for lateral moves to another team. That is not commitment.Mori Chu wrote:Dang, we are SO lucky we didn't get stuck with a bum like Joerger! I'm so glad we immediately hired Watson without waiting at all or interviewing anyone!

Should fit in well with the Kings then.Indy wrote:After reading the stories, I would not want him at all. He regularly asked his boss to interview for lateral moves to another team. Re: Around the League: Playoffs
What a coaching carousel. I wonder who ends up in Memphis.
Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

Re: Around the League: Playoffs
Yeah, that is a pretty weird story about how he openly asked permission to interview for other jobs. Not sure what to make of that. Wonder if another side of the story will leak out from Joerger's camp. Sounds kind of David Blatt / Mark Jackson-ish in terms of being insecure about one's coaching job.Indy wrote:After reading the stories, I would not want him at all. Cleveland's going to walk to the finals.
Re: Around the League: Playoffs
Isn't Whiteside also out? I think all in all that works in Toronto's favor. Without Whiteside and Bosh Miami is left with Amare, Haslem and McRoberts as their bigs. Toronto still has Biyombo, who's playing well, Patterson, Scola and Thompson.TheOriginalOriginal wrote:Dammit. Was really rooting for Toronto.
I think Toronto gets through. Injuries really hurt Miami this year.
