Jackson is an under-performer now? Wow, ok.

Really, all we know is these guys are so young we have no idea how good they're going to be.

Three ways of looking at it -

1) Optimistic
2) Pessimistic
3) Realistic

We need a big dose of "3" around here.

And all the 1's and 2's think they ARE 3's. Especially the 2's.

I'm with OE32. Bender is good at switching and keeping a smaller guy from driving, good at contesting shots on the perimeter, has good timing when going for a block, and he knows when to body up and when to back off. Overall, he played great defense for the youngest rookie in the league.
"great for the youngest rookie in the league" << great defense overall

I'm not trying to be difficult, but great means great. I am glad we all have high expectations for the kid, but if you ask 100 professional NBA talent evaluaters to list all great defenders in the league, not one of them would put him on the list.
Overall doesn't mean "above all other people", it means 'including all of the context'.
What O_G said.

This s*** is pedantic yo.
[rant]There are a ton of us on here saying how great Bender is at this or that (I have been in this camp at times too). He isn't. He is in the bottom 3-4 players of the top 15 players taken that year (along with Chriss). Sure, he might turn into something. But he is so far from "great" at anything that I don't know why anyone would argue otherwise, except for being a homer. If we had taken Papa Johns, or Harnangomez, or even Sabonis, nobody on this board would be talking about Bender being great at anything. I guess I am just sick of us praising under-performers ("JJ is the next Scottie Pippen!") and making excuses ("but he is the best of the 19 year old rookies!") because we really hope they turn into something, instead of making good draft/FA decisions and building a good team.[/rant]
I agree with your rant. I hope that I'm not too much of a homer and gloss over our guys weaknesses, because I know I do sometimes. I will also defend the Suns when I think someone is being overly critical when they have no idea.

There are professionals that judge talent for a living and they have a hard time projecting young players - so I'm not that embarrassed when I say I have guessed wrong on plenty of players that I either thought were going to be good, or I though were non-prospects.

You have to keep an open mind on these things. Some place between the SPORTS ILLUSTRATED assessment and Earl Watson's "You're all All-Stars!" approach.......

Ha! I didn't mean that he is an under-performer. He is doing exactly what we hoped he would do as a rookie that has yet to play a regular season minute of basketball. My comment was more about us anointing him before that single minute has been played. At least wait until next week to do that. :P

If you want to nitpick, he does have 20 turnovers in four games.

Never heard of him. What does he do? (More specifically than "play basketball," that is.)

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/2101 ... djan-keita
PHOENIX -- The Suns have signed 6-foot-10 Frenchman Tidjan Keita.

The 20-year-old forward from Paris, with a 7-3 wingspan, was not selected this year after declaring for the draft. He took part in a pre-draft workout with the Suns this year and played for the Toronto Raptors at this year's Las Vegas Summer League.

The addition leaves the Suns with 19 players on their roster. They open their season Wednesday night at home against the Portland Trail Blazers.

What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton
