In the end you really have to questions Jones's ability to access talent. Both in the draft (Ayton over Doncic, Smith over Haliburton, Bridges over Gilgeous-Alexander)
- James Jones wasn't GM in time to choose Ayton over Luka; that was McDo and Saver.

- I don't think drafting Mikal Bridges over SGA is a disaster. Mikal was an excellent player for us, one of our core 3 guys who took us to the Finals, and good enough to be the primary piece in a trade to get Kevin Durant, and later traded by another team for five (5!) first-round picks and players, and currently locking down the Celtics on defense to put the Knicks in position to win and go to the ECF. SGA is better, yes, but this is not Bowie over Jordan here. Mikal was very good.

- Smith over Haliburton was a legitimate tragedy. We had all the info at the time to know that Haliburton was a blue chip prospect and could become a star. But James Jones got too cute about it because he'd recently found a hit with Cam Johnson in the mid 1st round. JJ really blew that pick. No excuses there.

IMO really the only big draft blunder JJ ever made is Smith over Haliburton. That is a really big bad blunder, and I rue it every day. But outside of that bad pick, JJ did really well in the draft overall I think.
I don't believe SGA was an option for us. We didn't draft Bridges, and Philly didn't draft him for us; we traded for him after the pick was made. My understanding is that the Hornets rejected our offer.

McD said he had a trade in place for a pg, but Sarver overruled him. Don’t believe he ever mentioned SGA, but couple that with Gambo incorrectly reporting we were trading for SGA and I think we did have something worked out.

That was the beginning of the end for McD…kinda funny that we stopped listening to him right as he was making a great move haha.

Interesting. I didn't remember the Gambo thing, but what you say makes tracks.

Maybe we can blame Jones for not getting SGA, then.

We can blame James "All the Day and All of the night" for the bad player decisions he has made. Those same bad decisions I expect haunt virtually every NBA franchise.

The most important decision that the GM makes is who becomes the head coach. James Jones survived numerous poor decisions in this area. The question should be. Why is James Jones still here? Well I guess that will change on 6/30/25.

The only two coaches that have united this community in the past two decades have been, Mike D'Antoni and Monty Williams. Both of those coaches were thrown under the bus by a new owner. Mike/Sarver and Monty/Fuck Head.

We need Gregory to find a Mike or Monty look a like to inspire us to watch Suns Basketball again. It has been a rough ride since Fuck Head purchased this team.

You just gave Jones all the blame and none of the credit for hiring Williams.

I thought Alvin Gentry was also a great Suns head coach from 2009-2013.

I liked Gentry as well, but he was a D'Antoni clone and followed Terry Porter. Nash and others loved playing for Mike.

My bad. Monty was a great hire by James Jones. I do not think we know how much control was taken from him when Fuck Head purchased our team. I cannot believe he chose to trade for KD or Beal, while giving up virtually every future asset that we used to have. Maybe I am wrong, but I doubt it.

Why in the world is Bartelstein still employed. He had to OK that no trade contract his dad gave to our franchise.

Oh, that's right it is "All in the Family". His terms of future employment should be tied directly to getting us out of that contract. That is if Ish actually has a brain.

The Gregory hire has made that part of the discussion. Does he?

Excuse me? What??? If Mikal was “one of our core 3 guys who took us to the Finals” (and I assume you’re putting Booker and CP3 in there), then what was the guy CP3 called our postseason MVP??

Btw, Mikal was in the same draft as Ayton in 2018, so Jones was not the GM for the Mikal pick either.

Who? Doesn't ring a bell. Book, CP3, Mikal, and a bunch of great role players; that's the Finals team I remember!

I'm just busting your balls, Jeremy. DA did play very well that postseason. The team as a whole played great; Crowder gave us a lot, Cam Johnson, Cam Payne, lots of guys contributed.
