If we're trying to win games, we have the wrong roster.

This is great news! Total steal of a deal on this contract. You have to remember that in today's NBA, that contract is super duper cheap. We are really lucky to lock him up for that little money.

Love this. More than fair given what is going on league wide.

I equate this to a 7-8mil deal under the old salary structure, which I'm fine with. He's a scorer, has improved his outside shot and defense. I still don't love his fit here, but it's a solid deal and something that we needed to get done. Hopefully he can put together a full season.

1. TJ, I believe is goimg to blow up, and he felt like he was the lost man in #TheTimeline with the drafting and lovefest for Jackson. He would have cost a lot more next year as a RFA, and/or been a higher cap hold next year.
2. They clearly liked TJ and wanted him to know they valued him.
3. He has great value as a multipositional forward, where his game resembles a bit of an old school 4, but is a more natural scoring 3. He can play in the lineup with Jackson at the same time.
4. The game is built and won around multiple wings, and possibly losing him is going to set the team back, if only a little
5. Word was that Warren was pretty much unguardable in workouts recently.
Do you think Warren is a starter for us this year?

We've gone all summer assuming Jackson will start and Warren will either be traded or come off the bench. With this good contract, and with how much the team talked up Warren on Media Day, I might be ready to revise that expectation. I could see the rookie coming off the bench until he earns that starting spot. On the other hand, that second unit is really going to need Warren's scoring.

I could see us starting Warren because Jackson hasn't earned anything yet, but I just think the fit is better with Warren off the bench. Like o_gardino said, we need his scoring off the bench and I think we need Jackson's D next to Booker

Maybe TJ can be our Manu Ginobili and come in and carry the offense off the bench. TJ and Ulis is a pretty nice 1-2 on the bench.

Agree with this and that's why giving him the extension before the season might be smart if that is the plan because at least he knows he is an important piece and not worried about his numbers. Yeah, I can definitely envision us finishing games with both Warren and Jackson in the lineup.
Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

This is how I feel. Ulis/Warren/Williams should be our core bench unit going forward. Let them develop chemistry now. Ulis and Williams already showed a lot of chemistry.

It may turn out that Warrren is Ginobili-esque for us. For the sake of discussion, let's talk about the implications.

In Manu's case, he was mostly clearly the best & most balanced player at two positions. When he was younger he had Bowen and old guys Finley & Barry starting in front of him. I don't think anyone questioned that he was the best all around player in that group. At the end of the game, you can put him in for Bowen if you need more offense, or put him in at shooting guard if you need more D there. Later on, he has been on the bench behind younger guys who are clearly nowhere near his talent level. They're just younger and can handle the minutes.

Same with Igudola in GS. He's clearly better than the starting center, so it's easy to put him in at the end of the game.

If Warren & Jackson are our closers going forward, that means Warren in a better 4 than Bender, Chriss, and '18 lotto pick. I hope that is not the case. This year, sure. But long term, one of our high draft picks had better turn into something more than a super 6th man.

Way too much for TJ. Terrible defender, can't space the floor, kind of a black hole of ball movement. Awful Real Plus Minus.

He should be getting less than Williams, purely based on performance.

I think there is most definitely a place in the NBA for advanced stats but basketball is also different than baseball. You put 8 guys out there that just play good defense, get on base, move runners over, and just do the little things and you'll have success. You don't need variety in baseball, but you do in basketball. I'd love to see someone put together a team of just role players who do the little things(Alan Williams) that make them look good in advanced stats and see how they do. I think they'd be awful. Basketball needs star players. You need people to put pressure on the defense. TJ Warren isn't a star, but he can put pressure on the defense with his scoring.
