The game yesterday was so hard to watch . It's not just Hornacek's fault and can we really blame e the players? I mean - if anything, we can and should blame the front office for assembling a very bizarre team with lots of random pieces that make no sense and STILL no identity what so ever

I have to say that McD / Horny combo has not netted us a very interesting , compelling or forward moving / growing team. It's an extremely bland, haphazard, poorly constructed team concept run by an unimaginative and docile coach who seems clueless about adjustments

So it's not JUST the coach, but the coach sucks. The front office makes terrible decisions that are rooted in some analytical bullshit that isn't paying off and all in all - we are likely fucked for another season of sub-par and GOING NOWEHRE basketball

I would rather be the 76ers or the Wolves - at least they may end up developing talent. We are so sub par it's gross and really hard to watch.

We have a few good young players , yah thats good

However - some of the PLAYS are SO UGLY . How many players blew layups and shots by the basket yesterday in transition? You want to put none of the blame for that on the coach ?

To the Hornacek lovers, enjoy it while it lasts. Someone will get sacrificed . I hope i turn out to be wrong but this year is already looking like a colossal cluster fuck of pick #13 proportions

In a way too early and reactive type of way after the first game, I totally agree with all of this.

They were running that weird weave play at the top of the key again last night. The same crap they went to last year after they decided it wasn't a good idea to just throw it to the center at the three point line every time down the court to start the offense. The thing they did awhile before mostly going back to the iso crap.

Lots of teams swing the ball around the three point line but they don't normally look like a team running a drill. It seems like our guys do it at the beginning of a possession for no real reason. Only problem is it rarely results in anything good and a lot of times the other team reads it and either gets a steal or comes close.

I swear it looks like a freshman high school team who has just been taught the offense. They are too busy trying to run the offense they never end up taking advantage of the opportunities the offense provides.

It is like a hassle they put up with so they can get it over with and run an iso.

I was hoping for more from the team. I don't understand how our offensive sets can look so bad. I won't even get into the fact that the guards just mostly ignored Len. Last year it seemed like we kinda went with the players weren't too bright and so Coach had to dumb it down. I just can't imagine after another year they couldn't get it down.

Coach is off to a rough start just based on what we were running on offense not the actual results.

Ive always been suspicious of that 'the players are too stupid' line from last year ….

I don't think our players are stupid. They are no more or less stupid than any other player on average. Some players are smart, some are less smart, all are intelligent enough to do what they have been doing all their lives.

I find it slightly strange to assume that these players are dumb and also presumptuous for coach to imply that the players are too dumb for his 'super intelligent plays' . Intelligence is adaptive - maybe his plays are not good but convoluted an not well actuated to our actual talent , their respective skill-sets and chemistry ?

What evidence do we have that Hornacek's playmaking intelligence is SO HIGH that an average group of NBA players who have played basketball and executed plays for their entire lives just can't get it ? Basically he sucks as a coach then . Maybe if he was coaching a team from the late 80s he would be an amazing coach . I propose we put him in a time machine and send him there .

I think Thunder Dan would have been a better coach but they dismissed him back in the day.

Hey now, my freshman team is going to look a lot better than that.

Nailed it. Every movement feels forced and robotic. They know where they need to go but it's like they don't exactly know why. All too hindered by the fact that nobody but a 18 years old rookie provides space and there is no reliable pick and roll/pop set to run.

With IQ and 3pt shooting are sorely lacking, this team needs to run a slow, methodic offense. And it needs to bust its ass off on defense, which against the Mavs was not the case particularly at the perimeter.

When the dust settled after the summer moves, I was scared our offense would look fugly. On the opening day, they delivered on that front and then some. Could be a really long season.

That.

Even on the first play they looked unsure of what set to run. I like Knight's body language out there much more than Bledsoe's. Yeah Knight still sucked but he looked more than just going through the motions. Still doesn't make him a PG though.

Also, Happy Birthday Indy!!!

To think you were old enough to be a drunken night away from being father to a Devin Booker...
