Report: Suns interested in Jazz forward Derrick Favors
The NBA trade deadline hits Thursday afternoon and the Phoenix Suns continue to be connected to rumors around the league.

While Phoenix GM Ryan McDonough wasn’t able to put together a deal to land Sacramento center DeMarcus Cousins, who ended up in New Orleans, he might not be done trying to engineer a deal.

According to Tony Jones of the Salt Lake Tribune, the Suns have interest in Utah Jazz power forward Derrick Favors.
Favors makes sense but only as a center. He's too slow and immobile as a PF.

He's also very injury prone so idk.

If we do trade for him, then Tyson Chandler better be headed out.

I said very active, but I think it will be very minor. I kind of suspect we will give up Alex for much less than market value by dumping Knight with him. If we move PJ, I would expect it to be a wash.

Eerily quiet so far today being we are a day away from the deadline. Twitter is dead and the message board traffic is like a deserted college town. Let's hope there is much going on behind the scenes.

I still remember 2015, Ryan. Don't fuck this up!

I don't know what I think of Favors. Seems like a decent scorer and rebounder, but I always got the sense that he had a poor "motor" and wasn't very passionate or didn't play super hard. Seemed to be just kind of "out there" and didn't seem to have a huge impact on the floor. But I barely watch him so I could be way off. I think Favors vs Len is a wash and would mildly prefer Len honestly, unless the salaries would be wildly different.

I feel like trading for Favors is trading to just trade and has no positive impact now or for the future. I feel like Favors hasn't been improving, but Len has been. You wouldn't know it from Watson's minutes he gives him though.

I think we need to look at Favors from last season. This year's been injury filled and he hasn't got going. Favors is clearly a better offensive player than Len, defensively it's questionable. Len is a better rebounder and shows some more potential as a rim protector, but favors is more consistent. Len still goes out and picks up 3 stupid fouls in 6 minutes from time to time.

I'm pretty sure we're not resigning Len, Favors at 11 million next year is a good deal. Len at 18 million is not.

If we are really looking at Favors I hope the front office does their due diligence on his knees. I hear they are really, really bad. Bledsoe level bad.

The Suns med/training staff is the last thing I am worried about.

They are amazing at preventative care. No question. But when you have a guy with a bad injury there's only so much you can do. I do think they are probably the best thing our organization has going for it. Whatever that says about us.

That's fair. Has he had knee issues before this year? He's been relatively healthy his whole career. Missed 4,1,5,9, and 8 games before missing 20 last year with some back issues and 17 this year so far.

ShelC wrote:The only way I'm OK with Favors is if Knight is in the deal. And even if we take him on without giving any salary up, which McD has mentioned in the past as some badge of honor, what does that really do for us? He's a middling player with bad knees who's a plodder and can't step out to shoot. Are we just trying to sneak into the playoffs?
I think it fits into the Front Office modus operandi of bringing over (draft, trade) a player in the same position than another you are going to sit and negotiate in the summer. You take out yourself off the corner, but usually the incumbent player feels disrespected.

Paul George anyone?

What would it take to get him?

Too much for a guy who'd likely only stick around thru next year and bolt to LA.

I've read the same about Favors' knees. Will try and dig up the info.

At this point I'm more concerned than hopeful. I hope there is a good third option but for now it looks like either we end up not doing anything or we drop a ton of our assets for an all star that might get us far enough to be swept by the Warriors. I just have a bad feeling about all of this.

I would rather watch the young guys lose and hope we strike gold in the lottery than running the treadmill with our one all star with no assets to get another and no hope of one signing in the off season.

23 hours to go.

Gambo just came on the radio and is saying the following:

1. 7 or 8 teams are trying to negotiate for Tucker including the Spurs.
2. Suns are kicking the tires on Paul George and Jimmy Butler. Nothing serious, just due diligence.
3. Paul George and his agent are telling teams not to bother trading for him because he is going to the Lakers in 18 months.
