For reasons that should be evident, I personally would not want Miles Bridges on my basketball team. The Suns obviously don’t agree, which is fine. But surrendering an unprotected first-round pick and then reportedly preparing to extend Bridges’s contract multiple years is negligent. We’re talking about an average power forward (at best) who’s undeniably overpaid.
If his next contract comes back at a reasonable number, my criticism of the trade will shrink a little bit. But nothing justifies sending an unprotected first-round pick to Charlotte for the right to pay Bridges a dime. It’s objectively stupid enough to overshadow a slew of harmless, team-friendly signings. Mark Williams, Jordan Goodwin, and Collin Gillespie are all bargains.
The ripple effect of putting Grayson Allen in the Bridges trade forced Phoenix to replace him with Luke Kennard, which is OK. But a little more patience could’ve gone a long way for a team that didn’t need to act like Bridges was some missing piece. The taxpayer midlevel exception could’ve been spent elsewhere. And not for nothing, last year’s decision to give Devin Booker a $132 million extension that doesn’t expire until 2030 looks even more foolish and unnecessary than it was in real time.

The pundits are not watching the games enough. From a basketball perspective, we're a better team. Miles Bridges is a legit power forward who can create his own shot when needed. These analysts are fine to criticize the move from a culture/bridges-is-a-horrible-person perspective, but replacing Allen and O'Neale with Bridges and Kennard should make us a better basketball team from just a talent/skill viewpoint.
And we also got a draft pick in the deal! Yes, we gave up a future pick, and people can make reasonable arguments about the value of those picks and how the Suns are using those picks, but the narrative that the Suns give away picks or somehow don't value them is a lazy narrative.

I think we likely got better as well, but I do think it’s fair to ask if we got enough better to make up for the difference in value of those picks.
I still come back to playmaking. It was a problem last year and if anything, we have less playmaking this year. I’m hoping we at least pull a Jalen Green for DeJounte Murray swap.

I really do hate the pick selling but I do think Ish wants to win more than Sarver did. Because he's not mortgaging the future. He's finding pieces for the future with some of his assets while diversifying to stay relevant and compete now. This team as constructed could mesh and make some noise. They're no less talented than the Nuggets, Clippers, Rockets, Lakers, Warriors, Wolves. The only two teams I struggle to see a series victory over is the Thunder and the Spurs.

We have a very interesting press conference coming up. I agree with these guys. They can't just make a statement and then not allow follow up questions. It's going to be a very uncomfortable press conference as well. On the other hand, I can't see them having Bridges sit up there and take question after question about it.
And Mat Ishbia and Brian Gregory need to be held accountable for how this meshes with their high character player mantra they have been preaching. They are the ones that traded for Bridges so they should take the brunt of it.

They will denounce domestic violence and say that they carefully investigated it as they would never take something like that lightly. They will say that by all accounts, Miles has been a model citizen since his arrest and that everyone in his life vouches for him. They will emphasize that Miles regrets his decisions and that they believe he is a different person and are confident he will be a good representative of the team in the community.
