NBA News: Offseason
Re: NBA News: Offseason
Wow, that Batum deal. I like Batum a lot as a player but I would never pay him that kind of money. Not even close. I know the new CBA requires teams to adjust their expectations and get used to higher salary numbers, but there's just no way he should get that much money.
I love that Lin deal for Brooklyn, and I think the Jefferson signing by Indy is a good one for them at that length/price. Heat are doing the right thing keeping Whiteside; he's still very young and a really productive center for them. Could be one of the best centers in the league in a few years.
I don't get Portland throwing that much money at Chandler Parsons. I think he is totally done as a high-impact NBA player. Would not want him even at the mid-level.

Re: NBA News: Offseason
He's better than OK, Draymond is a better rebounder and more capable of guarding bigs, other than that, they're pretty similar.ShelC wrote:Draymond plays almost every position. Batum is just kind of there as a do-everything-ok SF.
Re: NBA News: Offseason
I'm with Bob on this one. He's 27. Same age as Love, Batum, etc. I think Whiteside is what he is. A big man that has a lot of athleticism and loves to block shots but is often way out of position to do so. It's a bit like Rondo stat stuffing his assist totals at the detriment of his team's success. I don't think we'll see much improvement from him going forward.Marty wrote:I love that Lin deal for Brooklyn, and I think the Jefferson signing by Indy is a good one for them at that length/price. I get that Batum is making a lot of money, but it is less than Bradley Beal. There's always a team out there that will pay good players like great players because making the playoffs is more important that the long run. That's how Joe Johnson got his payday. We could list a bunch more.

Re: NBA News: Offseason
Someone should know better, but as far as I know, the only penalti for not reaching the salary floor, is that the team must hand over a check for the difference to be spread among the rest of the league, and besides that, that we have all season long to reach the number, not necesarily at the start of the season.In2ition wrote:Other than the Suns need to make sure they are at the salary floor, I think it's good that all the other teams are throwing ridiculous money at mediocre players. Helps the Suns out if they stay disciplined in the long run.
Am I right? I read something along this line, with the sixers and their "process".
If that's the case, then I would love to see the Suns riding the season with minimal aditions, and instead of chasing overpriced FA, use cap space only to round up the roster by trading our players for less if any, salary going out to the other team (like Frye for Tucker if/when Teletovic signs elsewhere). Next offseason, we would be sitting in a bunch of good contracts.
Hey, let's send Knight to the Heat for Dragic!!!

No, the shortfall is actually divided among the players on your roster in accordance with the percentage of their salaries against the cap.Aztec Sunsfan wrote: Someone should know better, but as far as I know, the only penalti for not reaching the salary floor, is that the team must hand over a check for the difference to be spread among the rest of the league, Am I right? Well, that would be even better, our rookies would get a bigger paycheck within the rules.carey wrote:No, the shortfall is actually divided among the players on your roster in accordance with the percentage of their salaries against the cap.Aztec Sunsfan wrote: Someone should know better, but as far as I know, the only penalti for not reaching the salary floor, is that the team must hand over a check for the difference to be spread among the rest of the league, Am I right? Evan Turner is getting 4/70 from Portland, Parsons a 4/94 deal from Memphis, and Fournier is getting 5/85 from Orlando.

Memphis did what they had to do to keep Conley I guess, but that's a woefully terrible deal. That'd still be $17M/yr under the old cap.The Bobster wrote:Chandler Parsons and his bad knees get $23.5 million a year.

Conley's still meeting with Dallas. Best case...maybe he leaves for Dallas and we can throw them Knight. But most likely, Riley will trade them Dragic and then sign Durant.
Re: NBA News: Offseason
Question for those of you still on the trade Knight bandwagon. Who do you want backing up SG and how much are you willing to pay them in this current climate? Or are you o.k. with Goodwin and Jenkins and just want Knight off the squad?

But, yeah, his defense was underwhelming. He essentially was an overgrown 2.
Leuer is the guy to keep at 4. Has more skills, although he was prone to getting hurt last season.
Well, so much for hopes and dreams ...

Goodwin is OK as a backup. And Bled can run as off guard when Ulis or Price subs in.carey wrote:Question for those of you still on the trade Knight bandwagon. Re: NBA News: Offseason
Sort of. If we have Goodwin and Jenkins on the team ,we should give them a chance to play and show what they are capable of. If they turn out to be bad, then we cut losses. I would rather have Bogdan or Dejuante Murray, but you play the guys you have.carey wrote:Question for those of you still on the trade Knight bandwagon. My opinion is that Jenkins can be just as good backing up Booker as Knight can be. He's not as explosive, but he knows his role and will just spot up without breaking the offense for the rest of the team. And you only need about 12 minutes behind Booker.
In case McD is reading: YOU DO NOT NEED A STARTER TO BACK UP YOUR STARTER.
