This is the real test of McD's drafting ability. This time, he didn't make the obvious play. He's a lot more bullish on Chriss than we are or the other lottery teams. He moved aggressively to get a player that he really wanted to get. He went out on a limb today. Time will tell whether he was right or just outsmarted himself.

Very happy according to McDonough in the post draft conference.

Could end up calling this his best draft or put the nail in his coffin as our GM. Either way it'd be a win/win.

Btw OKC killed it with the Ibaka trade. Still a great role player but just that. He was going to cost a fortune to retain, has not been his best version for a while now, they get new and cheap blood to patch holes, plus open up time for Adams. Also rid themselves of the need to spend on Waiters as already pointed.

Orlando gets a terrific fit but the risk of being left empty handed is high even if they are willing to pay Ibaka the max next year. Probably would have liked it more for them if it was Payton instead of Dipo, but then OKC doesn't do it unless a third team paid for the PG.

Not sure that taking two gambles, really increase our chance to hit a homerun, I would have preferred to take Sabonis over Chriss, liked the guy, the player and the pedigri.

I'm also truly hopeful that we are still talking with the Wolves about Rubio. With the 5th likely off the table, not sure Ricky is worth a recovering Bledsoe, but having a pass first PG is really needed in order to fully develop this roster. Maybe sending Pekovic to a 3rd team for a SF. Not sure how a balanced trade would looks like, but I really hope we are not done tweaking the roster. Also wants to retain Teletovic as an in between starter, until Bender or Chriss are ready. Fringe starter won't be so demanding of minutes, so we can develop the young PF's minutes at the pace we consider best.

Pekovic is almost done due to injuries. Bledsoe for Rubio is a yes from me. Bledsoe is probably the better overall player but the things Rubio does are sorely missed here and of course Bledsoe's meniscus plays a part. If Thibs likes Bledsoe, I say don't get greedy and just take Ricky.

Hopefully Westbrook's heroics during the WCF brings some value up to these kind of PG, and raise Bledsoe's value, but I agree, a simple Rubio-Bledsoe swap would work for me as well, and we avoid dragging this too long. If they also want Tucker, let's work it out separately.

I think the bled/rubio trade died the minute Boston left Dunn on the table.

Well, what a morning to wake up to. We leave the EU and manage to draft both Bender and Chriss!!
With Tyler that bumps it up to an A from me.
We need to fill the 4 hole long term and thee two should be able to play 3 positions in some degree as they move forward.
Booker will be stoked and as others have said, IQ in practices is a good thing, and other shorter players have had successful careers.
Yes we still have Knight, but FA is always an interesting time.
Wonder who they have in mind to really chase in FA now.
What we do in life, echoes in eternity.

a simple bledsoe for dragic or knight for dragic would be better.

I like the Bender pick. I think we overpaid for Chriss; I still don't like him much. But I'll give him a shot and see what he can do. Maybe he'll turn into a solid player. I don't really like that we got both of them, because they both essentially play the same position and I'm not sure how we will find minutes for them.

I'm really bummed out that we got a trade-up in the first round and then did NOT use it on Sabonis. I think that one will come back to haunt us. Mori's big prediction is that Sabonis will be nasty good on OKC and that team is going to win a title after their savvy trade to nab Oladipo and Sabonis in the same deal. Wow. Big day for them.

I like the Ulis pick based on the tiny amount I am seeing and reading about him. Not bad for a 2nd round haul there.

Now I would *LOVE* it if we could work out some kind of trade to get Ricky Rubio. Give them one of our guards and call it a day. Pleeeeeease, Minny, pick up the phone.

I love what okc did. Imagine trying to guard Westbrook, oladipo, and Durant. Sabonis will be solid and Adams was better than ibaka in the playoffs.

I'd love to see the Suns bring in Gary Payton Jr. and Elgin Cook.

I don't know anything about any prospect in the draft apart from what I read here, but I'm fine with Suns' picks. Lots of really young players here and I don't think finding minutes for Chriss and Bender should be a problem, Teletovic and Leuer are free agents anyway and at least Mirza should go to a playoff team. I don't think Bledsoe or Knight make any sense for this team, they don't appear to be 1st options, but they play like one, which I'm afraid would prevent younger players from ascending into the alpha role. Should be an eventful offseason and I hope they can both be traded, keeping an eye on Sixers who need a pg and Wolves who seem to be done with Rubio. Apart from Rubio I'm not sure what smart PGs are out there, I would primarily want him to be a defender and a playmaker. I'd like Conley but he'll be too expensive and probably doesn't want a rebuild.

I don't mind Chandler and Tucker staying, you need some veteran guidance for teenagers. Don't really care about Archie to be honest, might as well ride out his contract. So moving Knight and Bledsoe for Rubio and let's say some future picks (fantasy here, not a real trade proposal) would leave us with:

Guards: Rubio, Booker, Ulis, (Archie)
Forwards: Warren, Tucker, Bender, Chriss
Centers: Len, Chandler

And this is something I would probably enjoy watching. You add another bench guard and a big man you can rely on - like a resigned Leuer. Then pour some love over them and watch them grow :D

About other teams:
  • Good trade for OKC but what exactly is Orlando doing?
  • I think Kings realized they have a good nose for drafting bigmen and suck at everything else :) Maybe Joerger goes with triple tower lineups (or quadruple)? I thought their management (and Vivek) stabilized a bit and they got a good coach, but they need to figure out if they want to build around Cousins (I would) or move him.
  • Who got Thon Maker at 10 and Skal at 28? Bucks are really all in on length.
  • Not really draft but I think Rose is a low risk gamble for the Knicks which in best case scenario is super mega steal 3000. RoLo is playing well but still bouncing around the league, too bad for him.
  • No bang yet in Boston. I don't think they should be in a big hurry though, they still have 2 years of Brooklyn picks to add to their team. I wouldn't sell them for Love if I were them.
