BTW, please create a new thread when the Suns' coaching decision has finally been made.
Does this count?
Oh great, unsourced Twitter slop. We can wait until an actual decision is announced.
My wild guess would be that they move quickly if they want Bryant, since it sounds like the Knicks might make a run at him if we don't snatch him up first. If they delay, that might be a sign that they want Ott and will let Bryant go to NYK.
Not disliking his time here it was good while Paul was here, but I'm not sad he's gone, he's still under .500 for his career. He's nothing special, Paul was the engine, not Monty.
Please tell me which coaches have been able to win with lousy players.
Monty made Phoenix Suns basketball fun to watch.
Then Ishbia traded away his team. It has been well documented that he really did not want the Detroit job but who wouldn't take it for the money they gave him?
What was the reason to get rid of Monty again? Oh yeah, that guy we drafted rather than Doncic.

They were really good with Rubio, too. Monty was a good fit for Book and the core of the roster, and fit is 70% of the job with coaching. IT isn't about being "special"; it's about being successful.
As for his friction with certain players, I think every coach should have friction with DA. The problem between them is that DA didn't want to play basketball. The friction with Crowder only started once Crowder got old and wasn't good anymore, and I think all that was overblown by the media anyway.

IMO the only player relationship that Monty mishandled was with Jae Crowder, who got into Monty's doghouse and they never seemed to recover. Monty could probably have handled that better. But my suspicion is that Jae probably acted inappropriately and was too butt-hurt about Cam Johnson coming for his minutes and chose to pout and be a locker room problem about it. Monty has the authority to make rotation and roster decisions like that. I do wish he had found a way to smooth it over with Jae but don't think that one isolated incident makes Monty bad at player relations.
Some context around this would be nice, but whatever.
What context you need? Rubio played 65 games, that roster was better than what we trotted out last year.
Cam, Book, Ayton, Rubio, Mikal, Oubre, Frank, Baynes, Payne off the top of my head and he was under .500 until Paul came in and ran the show for 3 years.
Monty was awful in Detroit…there really is no other way to explain that situation other than they offered so much money that he had to do it. I don’t think he really wanted the job and I lost some respect for him there.

Well Ayton missed the first quarter of the season with his drug suspension. Cam was a rookie…Mikal a 2nd year player. Was a very young team that started out rough, but obviously went on a run in the bubble. Payne joined for the bubble…Jevon Carter was also on that team. Also, not that important, but it was Saric, not Frank, I believe.

Locker room problem? He was not allowed in the locker room after Monty informed him in the middle of the summer that he was benching him. Lol. So how could he possibly have been a locker room problem? Plus his teammates all loved him.

Seems possible it was the other slow white. Either way.

His teammates were wearing F Jae Crowder T-Shirts!!!

And that was in the playoffs in 2022. More proof there was still great chemistry with his teammates before Monty called him over the summer.

It appears that TOO thinks every head coach we have had has been better than Monty Williams.
For the record:
The great Jaden Ivey played in 77 games while starting in 61 for Monty while averaging 15.4
Last year without Monty he played played in 30 games while starting 30 - averaging 17.6
He was little or no factor in the Detroit turnaround last year.
Please explain what Jae Crowder has accomplished in the NBA post Monty?
After Monty they added Tim Hardaway, Tobias Harris, Dennis Schroder & Ausar Thompson with Duren playing 20 more games due to health problems when Monty was the head coach. The roster Monty coached was awful.

Ummm Monty coached Ausar, he wanted him to marry his daughter, remember?

Incorrect, never even close to what I said, I just don't think he's as good as Suns fans seem to think he is lol. Much like many players who have come and gone.
