Many times the extent of the punition depends on the social awareness on a certain issue. Domestic abuse, machism, etc is in the spotlight in recent times much more than alcoholism. That's probably a factor too.

The NBPA is not happy about Taylor's suspension.
In other news, Kevin Durant has signed a deal to endorse the Sonic burger chain. I wonder what Seattle fans think of the president of his agency calling him "a Sonic guy."

Kobe has taken 45 more shots than anyone else in the league (Melo is 2nd) and has missed 49 more shots than anyone (Melo again). It's basically like he was Melo but then went 0-45. Crazy.

Time is running out, Indy. How else do you expect him to have a chance at the all time scoring record?Indy wrote:Kobe has taken 45 more shots than anyone else in the league (Melo is 2nd) and has missed 49 more shots than anyone (Melo again). That's just never going to happen. Doesn't he have to have another 6 healthy years at 25 ppg?
Re: Around the League: Week 4 11/17-11/23
Probably not but you know he wants to move up as high up the ladder as he can. I think he'll be passing Jordan in the next week or so.Indy wrote:That's just never going to happen. Doesn't he have to have another 6 healthy years at 25 ppg?

He needs about 4 more years at his current clip. Which isn't impossible, but I just don't see how his legs could take that pounding and do have him score that much after several more years.
Re: Around the League: Week 4 11/17-11/23
Got it. I thought I saw and info graphic recently that showed it was a lot longer.
Re: Around the League: Week 4 11/17-11/23
Kareem has 38387 points. Kobe has 32030.
So he needs (38387 - 32030) = 6357 points.
Kobe is currently averaging 27.5 ppg. At that pace, he would need to play (6357 / 27.5) more games, or 232 games.
An NBA season has 82 games, so he would need to play (232 / 82) or 3 more seasons after this one, so I thought of it as 4 seasons.
I think there is almost 0.0% chance that Kobe will be averaging 27.5 ppg three years from now, but hey, there's the math if you assume he has literally no drop-off in scoring over all that time.
(For fun, if you assume that Kobe instead averages 20.0 ppg over the rest of his career, he needs 318 games to break the record, which is 3.88 more seasons. If he averages 15 ppg, it's 5.17 seasons. And so on.)

Yeah, I think the info graphic assumed 25 ppg and like 65 games/year.Mori Chu wrote:Kareem has 38387 points. Kobe has 32030.

I think it's the safest bet in sports that he doesn't get it. He's super frustrated already, I can't see him going through 3 more years of this OR staying healthy enough to even get there, no matter how many trips to Germany he makes.

A shame. He was quietly having another great scoring season and if the Wolves would have wanted so, they could have gotten good rebuilding assets for him. Saw him almost beat singlehandly the Bulls (btw, Butler is having a monster season, allstar candidate) like it was vintage Kings.
Re: Around the League: Week 4 11/17-11/23
What makes you think the next three years are going to be like this? They're the Lakers, they have a ton of cap room and probably a top-5 pick. That the Lakers are going to be much better the next couple of seasons is also one of the safest bets in sports.carey wrote:I think it's the safest bet in sports that he doesn't get it. Kobe's said he wants to retire after this contract is up. Not sure if he keeps his word, but that's what he's said.
Re: Around the League: Week 4 11/17-11/23
He has given us no word to keep. When he said that, he also said he reserves the right to change his mind.Shabazz wrote:Kobe's said he wants to retire after this contract is up. Not sure if he keeps his word, but that's what he's said.

Yeah i think if he feels like his team is doing decently and or he has any chance at the record, he will stick around.

Bennet totally has allstar potential. He is huge and makes midrange shots. He is the new Z-bo.
