It'd be hard to find a deal where the salaries would match up if you wanted Smith (which I don't), I'd be a lot more interested in Monroe.

Josh Smith could be the next Randolph in terms of image and game rehabilitation, but it is a huge gamble. And his value is close to worst contract in the L, even worse than Wallace because Gerald at least is not used at all so he can't harm the team. IT3-PJ-Tolliver works, but Detroit would have to pay some sort of positive asset.

If Det wants to improve their on court balance, in a way that doesn't cripple them in assets, maybe Monroe is the better target. It is known that he has no future there so why not move him and get something while they can. We'd be losing the battle of the contracts if he send out long term value but maybe that's not even a problem to a franchise that seems ailed by the buyer's remorse.

Laz, Josh Smith is as much of a stretch 4 as Isaiah Thomas is a rim protector.

Yeah, there was a long stretch where I wanted Josh Smith but those days have passed.

He has better credentials coming in than Channing Frye did. Frye was a journeyman with a fairly mediocre career before he got to the Suns. Smith has baggage, but I think the Suns would be a great fit for him. His salary is a sticking point, to be sure.

Well, the big difference is that he's not a "stand at the arc" guy on offense - he's more versatile than that. Especially when you consider his defense.

Of course his shot selection is pretty questionable which makes him a low-efficiency shooter.

I don't see the comparison. "Stretch 4" is a power forward who can space the floor with his 3-point shooting. With the Knicks and Blazers, Frye was a good shooter out to 22 feet. The the Suns got him on a bargain contract and wisely had him adapt his game by stepping back 1 foot to turn his long 2s into 3s. Smith has an albatross contract and has proven over the course of many years that he may be the worst outside shooter in the NBA.

We don't need anymore guys to hang outside the three point line. How about getting some f'n rebounders?

It may have been mentioned already, but Blanks is doing color commentary for the Longhorn Network. He gets a front-row seat to watch future Sun Myles Turner (I wish).
