it's one thing to say better or worse, another to say whether you would want another player instead of bledsoe. in terms of better/worse i probably rank lowry as better, because he seems to offer more leadership, and i tend to like teague, even if he may be less of a defensive force. ty lawson used to be a better player but he's got some serious baggage... but on the court he can singlehandedly change the style of the game which is quite a difficult task to accomplish.

as for guys i'd rather have than bledsoe, i would probably put russell/mudiay/payton into that conversation. maybe even reggie jackson... though i'm on the fence about him.

I agree with a lot of that. "Better player" (right now) vs. "Who would you want on your team" (which factors in age, contract, future potential, etc.) are two very different things. I was thinking of the latter. If it's the former, I'd have a different list.

For me, when I talk about top 10 players, it is who is better right now, for this season. I agree that there are several of those guys that I think are better than Eric that I wouldn't want on our team. The discussion was about how to get the average fan engaged, and not having any top 10 talent makes that hard to do. Most fans don't care about salary, or how much baggage a guy has (unless it is very public baggage).

i think most fans do worry about baggage, if not salary. our own fan base's reaction to the morrii and tucker are pretty good examples, wouldn't you say? lawson... even after he left denver and went to what i would say is a very good situation in houston, he still couldn't keep himself from taking shots at his former team. that's not someone i would want to lead my team, as the floor general. so i probably wouldn't want him over bledsoe. but on the floor i say he has proven to be the more effective pg... when he cares.

Wow. Those guys are a drag to listen to. Here I was all excited about a new Suns podcast to start listening to. Nope. That's enough for me. The audio quality was bad as well.

These are the guys I believe to give you a similar or better overall production than Bledsoe, regardless of form.

Not Rose. Health. I would not trade Eric for Dragic. Defense.

yeah i wouldn't touch rose either. that situation has grown absolutely toxic... it's not entirely his fault, but still... poster child for injury-derailed career.

Hence the asterisk.

Still, if I kept waiting for Penny I can keep waiting for Rose because in this case Rose seems, well, phisically repaired, with lift and speed back. It's decision making/shot selection what hinders him and what produce those 8/22 FG games.

Actually, I'd trade Bledsoe plus (relatively minor) change for him. There, I said it.

Hmm. I don't think I would. I think Rose is destined to be a Knick when he's a free agent.

You'd trade Eric Bledsoe for Derrick Rose? Blech! I just threw up in my mouth a little. I loved Rose back in the day, but he is done, done, done.

And yeah, Supes, I want to dis*cuss the Suns game. Do your thing! :-)

In that case, carey, could you please wish for financial independence for me? Thanks in advance.

Guys who might be better / as good but it's unclear to me:

Kyle Lowry
Jrue Holiday
Goran Dragic
Jeff Teague
you still have no idea, after seeing both dragic and bledsoe play for 2 years?

In limited minutes, Archie is second on the team in PER (25.5). In limited minutes, Weems is second to last (-.4). I think we should give Archie an opportunity in the rotation as the backup 2 before pouring dirt on him.

At who's expense? I'd rather see Booker in those minutes.

25.5 PER? That can't be right, or if it's based on this season, it has to be a weirdly skewed stat based on incredibly small sample size. He absolutely is not making any significant impact out there in these first few games.

He's good at attacking the basket, but his shooting is bad, his passing is bad, and he doesn't seem capable of running the offense yet at all. Plus it is disconcerting how he's been grousing about his role despite not seeming to work hard on improving the skills he needs in order to actually HAVE a role. I think we've about given up on him.

What gives you that idea? Everything I've read about the kid says the opposite.

After 20 minutes, PER doesn't mean anything, either way. And despite the years of not showing us much, I am still in camp that would like us to use him versus dump him for nothing.

But, our PG and SG rotation so far as been 85% Bledsoe, Knight and Price. Even more so last night when those three guys played 90 of the 96 minutes available in the back court. I don't see too much room for anyone else there if coach is going to play those guys that much. That makes me sad.
