I never blame Suns fans for this. It's Phoenix in general. It's a "recent" city historically and when I moved there it seemed like everyone I met was from somewhere else too. It doesn't help that basketball season is almost exactly bluebird season. All these people have their own team allegiances already. I probably wouldn't be a Suns fan (or Diamondbacks fan) if New Orleans already had a basketball (or baseball) team when I moved there. They did have an NFL team and I remain a rabid Saints fan instead of a Cardinals fan. You can't really blame Suns fans for this stuff. Chicago teams have a huge following in the valley. At least the Chicago fans made the lower bowl look full. Most games it is empty looking.
