Curry's season is seriously in the conversation for best offensive output ever, at least in terms of modern NBA. Probably can't top Jordan's 32-8-8, maybe a couple more of his early 20s either, but it's right there.
Larry had two 28-30ppg 50-40-90 seasons (plus 9rpg, 6-8apg) but needed 40mpg, whereas Curry used only 34mpg.
TMac 32/6+/5+ @45-38-79% deserves a shout-out once you consider he was absolutely on his own on that Magic team.

Then you learn that on his last day alone the Lakers sold 1.2M of Kobe stuff.Mori Chu wrote:They basically gave away a year to let him chuck and ballhog. Typical. Oh well. I am not sure that many teams would have done differently under the circumstances. Pretty funny that they just fed him the ball to chuck up shots all night. I didn't watch because I was glued to the Warriors' 73rd win. Did the opposing team guard Kobe or did they just let him score? Was this an "Emperor's new clothes" situation? The Bobster wrote:This pretty much sums it up for me.ShelC wrote:Regarding Kobe, I've actually been disgusted all year by the lovefest. He was a douche his entire career, a bad teammate, a bad guy to reporters, raped a girl and got away with it, yet created this illusion in his final year as some loveable, gracious athlete and ambassador to re-write his own history. I think the Lakers sold themselves out with the Farewell Tour farce to make money and stunted the growth of the team and their younger players. I think the Lakers and Kobe disrespected the game last night by giving him 50 shots so he could blow it out one last time. So all I can say is, good riddance. I won't miss him and I'm glad the Lakers have lowered themselves to that level.

You mean in the post-Wilt Chamberlain era of course. BC his 50.4-25.7 season never be matched. He did average 48 minutes per game that year, which is remarkable in itself.Ring_Wanted wrote:Curry's season is seriously in the conversation for best offensive output ever, at least in terms of modern NBA. Of course. Modern is just another way to say 'post-Wilt' (and post Oscar) haha. He spent 48.5mpg on the court. Was subbed only in some overtimes if I am not mistaken.
Re: Around the League: Week 25 4/11 - 4/17
Played 3882 out of a possible 3890 minutes. How did he never foul out?

Wilt's season where he *averaged* 50 points and 25 rebounds a game stands on its own. But, different era, not really a "modern" stat like others have said.Ring_Wanted wrote:Curry's season is seriously in the conversation for best offensive output ever, at least in terms of modern NBA. Which ref would be stupid enough to do that?Cap wrote:Played 3882 out of a possible 3890 minutes. How did he never foul out?

I was watching some TMac highlights and he was really a prototype 2/3. Phenomenal physique, wingspan, handles, athleticism, body control, silky smooth jumper, could post, beat his man off the dribble. Total package. And it kills me we missed out on getting him from Orlando.

The only 8 minutes Wilt missed all season were when he was ejected after a fight.Cap wrote:Played 3882 out of a possible 3890 minutes. How did he never foul out?
Think about that - a guy who scores 50 points and grabs 25 rebounds a night still playing 48 minutes a game. Every game.

Most people consider the "modern era" to have started in 1976-77 when the ABA and NBA merged. It's convenient statistically because the league finally started counting blocked shots, steals and turnovers for players in the 1970's and the 3-point shot came to the league in 1979.Mori Chu wrote:Wilt's season where he *averaged* 50 points and 25 rebounds a game stands on its own. The actual change in play really took course over a long period of time as the league went from the faster-paced game of the 60's and 70's to the over-coached slowed-down game of the 90's to what we have now.

I hate over-coached games. I really, really hate it in the NFL. I think your coaching should happen in time-outs, breaks between quarters, and half-time. The players should be the ones making the calls on the field.

Yep. And I realized I had a typo in there. I had a "don't" that shouldn't have been in there.

They wanted Marion and JJ, right? Ended up with Steve Francis and Cuttino. Not quite the same (anthough Francis played pretty well for them his first season there).ShelC wrote:I was watching some TMac highlights and he was really a prototype 2/3. TMac had everything. More gifted than Kobe or Carter, but his cousin blew up before and took all the spotlight. TMac recently was asked and said that considering the way his career unfolded he wishes he had stayed in Toronto. The 'I tried man' interview after yet another 1st round exit is iconic.
