Knowing his haul for gobert, a lot I’m guessing. Probably not 5 second round picks.

So we're trading for an injury prone center coming up on an extension that we're going to have to make a decision on? If he plays 75 games and gives us 14-12-3 in 30mpg, did he turn a corner and break out or is he a contract year player looking for $100+mil so he can go back to playing 40 games a year? If we do believe in him and give him an extension and he is healthy and contributing, then we wasted our 10th pick on a backup. Do we think the FO did its due diligence on his health concerns or are we waiving any physical just to complete the trade?

If he is just a 1yr rental and placeholder while Maluach develops, why not just keep Richards in place and let him and Maluach split playing time. Why throw away the 2 picks.

I don't think it's great when there are way more questions than answers surrounding this. We don't know their plans, so I guess we can give the FO the benefit of the doubt (not that they've earned it). I just think they got caught off guard with Maluach being there at 10 after the Williams trade was agreed to.
On the other hand, if they are both good then we have 2 assets and can move whichever one gets the best return.

Windhorst was saying that Williams isn't healthy and won't be extended at the end of the season. The Suns get a starting center to take pressure off of Maluach while he develops and money off the books next summer. According to Windhorst.
I should probably clarify that Windy was speculating in the moment, not citing a source.

That is an important clarification

We had 5 seconds and 2 firsts to give him.

Well I don’t know which is worse. Wasting two firsts on a rental, or signing him to a long-term extension with his injury history. When you just drafted a center.

Yeah, what happened to taking BPA? All of a sudden, everybody is talking about need? It's not like he's yet another SG.

Well, you know we have such a great history with centers. Suns fans are uncomfortable with more than one decent one at any one time.

I’d much rather have Williams than Kessler…I don’t think Kessler is a good nba center.

I like Kessler but Williams is just better.

I know it's wishful thinking again but doesn't Williams have to pass a medical exam/physical before the trade takes effect. I know trades have been rescinded for failed physicals. Although at this point it really doesn't matter. The player I had hoped the Suns had drafted is already gone and was gone by the time 29 came up. I just hate we gave up another 1st even if it will not be that high of a pick

Oh looky what I found. From Khaman Maluach 'excited' to wear Phoenix Suns jersey, fulfills NBA dream

"In his third NBA season, Williams averaged 15.3 points on 60.4% shooting and 10.2 rebounds in just 44 games in 2024-25 for the Hornets. The 7-footer was headed to the Los Angeles Lakers in a deal before the 2025 trade deadline, but the trade was rescinded because of a failed physical."

He either passes a physical or the Suns can waive the physical and just complete the trade. I'm still not entirely sure what happened with the Lakers thing or what any of his issues are regarding his back/foot/knee.

We'll never know, but they sure gave up way more than the Suns did last night and were lauded for it. Yet here we are, getting smoked by a certain few perpetually unhappy fans.

Well, Brian Gregory is aggressive and creative, if nothing else.

He's been busy and finally got the lack of size addressed.
