This is a beautiful venue where they are playing the final round by the way. It's a former soccer stadium transformed for basketball and can hold up to 27000 spectators.

Huge 4th quarter by Spain and they cruise to the win. Gasol masterful finishes with 30 points. Gortat not a factor has 9 points and fouls out.

Monster Pau Gasol. 30 points with 6/7 threes :!: Close game until the fourth quarter but Pau took over. Greece is going to be a brutal game and I wouldn't be surprised if they defeat us. Extremely deep, plus Spanoulis and the Freak, but I am hoping Spain has one more gear especially the perimeter guys.

No. If he had played, they probably would have still been in the tournament.

Just what I was thinking.

Marc Gasol also skipped this tournament. It's not uncommon when it is time to secure a new contract.

Dragic has already secured his 90 mil contract. He wore himself out when playing for the Suns but is staying fresh for the Heat.

All the favourits with maybe the exception of Croatia are through to the next round. Only eight teams left: France, Spain, Latvia, Serbia, Czech Republic, Italy, Greece and lituania.

Nice find. Sucks that we seem to always get the short end of these sticks, though.

Spain defeats Greece by two points, 73-71. Gasol and Mirotic led Spain with 27 and 18 points, plus clutch free throws. The Freak scored 12 and grabbed 18 rebounds, but two key turn overs did cost his team dearly. Twice he was called rightfully for travelling on actions that wouldn't have been TOs in the NBA. He would have scored both times but this is Europe kid.

Now the Second quarterfinal between France and Latvia. Since my wife is from Latvia I'll be rooting for the biggest upset since Vinci vs. Serena Williams (sorry, had to rub that in somewhere ;) ) Diaw is so overweight right now, huuuge, but hits his first two shoots and a big shot block. Good start for Latvia up 10-5.

France with 4.5 NBA players on the court. Parker, de colo, Batum, Diaw and Gobert and Evan Fournier from the bench. But Latvia with a great start led by skilled guard Strelnieks up 25-21 after one and playing tough. Diaw leads France with 8 points.

France is cruising to victory now somewhat. They will join Spain in the semis. Parker, Diaw and Gobert the best performers. Final score 84-70.
