After one quarter Lithuania leads 21-20. They are shooting over 60 percent exclusively on two point shoots. Italy has hit 4 threes to counter. Bellinelli leads all scorers with 8 points.

First half ends 37-36 for Lithuania. Valanciunas has 10 points and at least 8 rebounds. Looks like a thriller so far.

And it stays close after 3 Lithuania is still up one point 61-60. A game of runs so far. Lithuania had an 8 point lead at one time. Then Italy stormed back to a 5 point lead, but Lithuania got the lead at the end.

Wow 79-79. We go to overtime. Incredibly entertaining game! Bargnani is almost matching valanciunas output. Gallinari with some clutch shots to bring Italy back.

It's all Lithuania in overtime. Kalnietis is the hero with 14 PTs and 10 assists. Monster game by valanciunas with 26 and 15. They played a great game and deserved to move on to the semis. Final score 95-85.

Because he doesn't want to.

The First semi is going to overtime. France trying to overcome a 4/16 shooting game by tony Parker. Spain is playing better game after game. They have experience and a lot of crafty players around gasol.

Gasol has 38 and 11. An absolutely incredible performance! Spain up 3 with seconds to go in overtime.

Claver fouls Batum on a three point shot, but he misses the first free throw, misses the second and misses the third. Spain scores another basket as France is unable to find anyone to foul. The French crowd is stunned. Spain is in the final!

Ouch. Batum missing all 3? He was garbage last season.

He did hit a 3 to send it to OT.

GOAT game by Pau Gasol. Historic. Dominance falls short to describe what he did against France. Abused Rudy Gobert, Lauvergne and whoever else got thrown at him.
A clinic. Scored half of Spain's points, rebounded, blocked, led like a true warrior and didn't let what was an otherwise almost universally poor team performance (Rudy, Ribas, Mirotic) sink his team. The only thing he didn't do was team defense as at this point he can barely rotate from the weak side or defend the pick and roll, let laone after spending so much energy scoring.
Seriously, with the exception of Sergio Rodriguez and LLull's defense on Parker, nobody was up to the challenge from Spain. Pau dragged them to the final against all hells. A superior opponent, 27k crazy fans (largest crowd at an european basketball game ever) and questionable calls from the refs.
Gobert complains on twitter that the refs didn't allow him to play defense. Please. Despite a couple of weak foul calls, he was more than made up for it. Everytime Pau touched the ball he was hit, pushed or both. A bunch of no calls on Mirotic and Llull. And don't make me talk about the shooting fouls France got in the 4Q. Blatant homer calls.
Chauvinism aside, if you like basketball and didn't watch the game, you missed out big time.

Thanks in part to a 5 point play (only in fiba) Serbia claws his way back into the game. It's 35-34 Lithuania at the half.

Lithuania has the lead after a very intense third quarter. They are really causing Serbia problems with their hustle. It's 48-43 now.

Teodosics heroics are not enough for Serbia. Bogdan choked on a drive with 5 seconds to go. Lithuania is the real heir to the USSR. They are the only country of the former Soviet Union to have always qualified for the olimpics since it's beak off. Today they punch their Ticket for rio with a 67-64 Win. Wow.

What's a five point play in Fiba?

On a foul off the ball on a three point shot, the player fouled gets two free throws instead of just one additional like in the NBA. So that's three points if the shot goes in, plus two if the player fouled off the ball makes his free throws.
