I would certainly trade Knight for him. If he had any shot at all from the perimeter I would consider him over Bledsoe, but then he'd be an All-Star if he could shoot.

And there is the rub

Its not just that he can't shoot. He is historically one of the worst shooting starting guards in the history of the NBA. He is old enough, and Minny is talented enought that they should be better than they are. I think the problem is Rubio. Do not want.

On the upside, he gets to the line enough that he's actually a reasonably efficient scorer despite his FG%.

Rubio and Archie have one thing in common - they can get to the basket but they're terrible finishers (unless Archie can dunk it).

I don't know if I agree with that regarding Archie. He has been pretty darn good lately of driving through traffic and finishing the layup.

Rubio only hits 50% of his shots at the rim. Archie is at 57%. But I would bet the difference is mostly dunks.

Is that for the season or their careers? I'd guess Archie is much improved in this category in the last couple months.

Zach Lowe had a great write-up on rubio a couple weeks back. A few of you might be interested.

I don't know if Archie ever becomes more than the 4th guard in a rotation. Maybe 3rd. Can't shoot, can't create. Great at diving to the rim, has the tools to be a very good defender. Is that enough to be a rotation player in this league?

Not unless you absolutely are elite at perimeter defense like Tony Allen. Even then the Grizzlies could only get away with it because they have a gritty defensive identity with Conley defending the P&R at an elite level & Gasol in the middle erasingistakes. They could hide him on offense because they got so much out of the post.

.
This, a far smarter way to explain what I was seeing last game.

Speaking of PGs, I can't remove the thought that maybe Kris Dunn is the best prospect when it's our turn.
Jason Kidd was a 1 man fast break. Rubio cant do that, that in itself was enough to make up for his poor shooting.

Agreed.

Kidd also learned how to shoot 3-pointers late in his career. If Rubio could learn that it would make a huge difference.

Just wait another year, and a guard out of Chino Hills is going to UCLA, by the name Lonzo Ball. He needs to work on his shot, but isn't afraid to shoot from almost anywhere in the gym. He's a slightly taller and more athletic version of Jason Kidd, or as close as I've seen. This year's Naismith POY, in hs. His team is probably going to win the National title as a public school, going well over 100 points 19 times.

Sorry that is hard to see. Look at the "0-3" column at the far right.

It is interesting to note that nearly half of his shots (54%) are 0-3ft away, so layups/dunks and some put-backs. Only 7% are dunks, though.

We complain that Rubio is an awful shooter, and although he does only make 50% of his shots at the rim, he takes 70% of his shots there.

Another thing on Rubio, he is better in nearly every single category when compared to Knight. And their TS% are pretty damn close. Rubio is 490 and Knight is 522.

Didn't realize Knight was shooting that poorly. His numbers the first half of the season were decent.

But he hasn't even played the 2nd half of the season, really. So maybe they weren't so great.

Oh, and that was career TS%. If you look at this season, Rubio is better than Knight. 522 to 520. That is to say, there are 275 NBA players with a better TS% this season that Knight. Of course, that includes guys that have hardly played and had a great game, but still.
