We really need him to be removed from the GOP equation so we can see someone else, with marginally better ethical standing rise to the top. Unfortunately, Desantis would be the next one up. Too bad someone like Liz Cheney won’t run.

Someone like Liz Cheney won’t run because someone like Liz Cheney can’t win.

Nobody sane will be able to win a GOP nomination for a generation. Their base and their media have gone way too insane to allow it. The only way for that party to correct itself will be to lose bigly for several election cycles in a row, and for some of their voters to die off and hopefully be replaced by folks who can be persuaded to be more reasonable, less racist / violent / extreme, more willing to embrace facts and not fight fake culture wars.

I know,,. But I like to dream of a day when people become more reasonable.

Please don't use the word "bigly".

I am good with Trump being the nominee. I think his base will love him no matter what. His base isn’t 50+% of the US. I think even some Maga Republicans are sick of him. As it gets closer to election time and Trump is convicted in a few of his criminal trials, then what? Hard to attend Maga rallies from prison. Would half of America vote for a convicted criminal? If he is found guilty of a coup attempt that automatically disqualifies him from running for office.

So Trump wanted to pin something on the Biden’s while he was President and personally selected a prosecutor Mark Weiss to head the investigation. After years of investigating he has been able to get Hunter Biden on tax evasion and since he was a drug user he shouldn’t have had a gun and they are pursuing gun charges. There was some sort of plea deal that the judge in the case didn’t like so the deal didn’t go through. Trumps man Weiss approached Meric Garland and asked him to make him special prosecutor in the case. Garland did. Now Republicans are claiming that naming Weiss as special prosecutor is all a Biden coverup scheme and that Trumps Republican hand picked prosecutor Mark Weiss cannot be trusted.

It seems to me that Biden could have gone the Trump route and just fired Weiss and squashed the investigation. He didn’t. He was hands off and Garland has let Weiss do whatever he wanted. Weiss asked to be named special prosecutor. Republicans are seriously grasping at straws again claiming it’s a big coverup attempt trying to make their base angry. Garland should tell the Republicans that he is sorry he named Weiss special prosecutor and just name a different prosecutor to head the case. See if that makes them happy.

The tweet is unavailable but that's a pretty broad stroke, Marty, painting all Republicans as racist.

ETA: OK, the tweet is working now. Yeah, that's racist and the people responsible are but that's not all Republicans. We're never going to come together if we paint each other with such a broad stroke.

That's fair. But broadly speaking the party has gotten to a point where nobody stands up against stuff like the above. The party is deeply and thoroughly tolerant of racism and other discrimination. Good folk who are Republicans do not do enough to push back against this kind of unacceptable behavior.

You both have points. Trump owns the party and FOX News is the official media of the Republican Party. They both promote racism although subtly and not so subtly imo. FOX viewers don’t think they are being racists. They just think minorities are bad people because Trump and FOX tells them that over and over every day.

Headlines at this moment.

“Democrat allowed illegal immigrant charged with sex crime to move into America’s top tourist spot.” This is their top story on their national news.

“Biden surrenders America for the sixth time and excuses don’t add up.”

“Trans athlete left girls with welts.”

“Lionel Richie’s enrages fans. Cancels concert one hour after start time.”

“NASCAR brawl”

“Hunter Biden legal team not as confident after sweetheart deal unravels.”

You have to go through 31 different stories down the page past the story about an old lady being surprised by an unwanted guest and several anti Joe/Hunter Biden stories before you get to a little blurb about Trump and Christy and the the debate.

Trump with multiple criminal charges against him on multiple fronts and not a single word about it on FOX.

Conservatives think the real racism is that there’s no AP White American Studies course teaching about the awesomeness of White Americans and that we must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children.

Even RFK Jr gets down with that 14 / 88 stuff.

I have never heard of 14/88 and had to look it up.

14/88
"14" representing 14 words written by David Lane, "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children."

This is correct

"88" refers to 88 words from Mein Kompf (author Adolph Hitler) about the supremacy of the white race.
14/88 and 88/14 are a common sign-on and sign-off on IRC Nazi channels.

First 2024 GOP Presidential Debate is on. I'm not watching but am seeing some clips. This one makes me groan every time. Moderator asks them to raise your hand if they believe that humans cause climate change. Zero of them raise their hand.

He’s a billionaire and not a politician. He knows everything about everything. He insulted everyone. Remind you of anyone? I watched a little of the after debate coverage and they said it was a plus for him because they attacked him back which gave him coverage.

I recorded it and started watching it when I got home. I wanted to watch it for the entertainment value I was expecting. I started fast forwarding pretty quick because every question was answered by them blaming the Biden’s and Dems for any and everything.

I am afraid I didn’t make it very far before saying screw this and watched something else.

I wonder how Trumps Tucker Carlson interview went? Trump coordinated it to steal their thunder. I wonder what the ratings were between the two. Trump will obviously claim he had the most viewers in the history of all mankind that tuned in to watch him. It’s not even a tv show is it? Isn’t it some kind of YouTube podcast thing? He is scheduled to get fingerprinted and get a mug shot tomorrow. Rudy turned himself in and got a mug shot that has been circulating online of course.

A Trump mug shot tomorrow? It will be the most famous mug shot in US history. I wonder what the betting odds are of him smiling or frowning. Will he sneer or give a defiant smile?

Trump will obviously claim he had the most viewers in the history of all mankind that tuned in to watch him.
“231,000,000 Views, and still counting. The Biggest Video on Social Media, EVER, more than double the Super Bowl,”

“But please excuse me, I have to start getting ready to head down to Atlanta, Georgia, where Murder and other Violent Crimes have reached levels never seen before, to get ARRESTED by a Radical Left, Lowlife District Attorney, Fani Willis, for A PERFECT PHONE CALL, and having the audacity to challenge a RIGGED & STOLEN ELECTION. THE EVIDENCE IS IRREFUTABLE! ARREST TIME: 7:30 P.M.,” Trump added in his Truth Social post.

“It started with protests against you and then it moved to impeachment twice and now indictment,” Carlson told Trump. “Are you worried that they’re going to try and kill you? Why wouldn’t they try and kill you? Honestly.”

“They’re savage animals; they’re people that are sick,” Trump responded.

I like how Trump is counting tweet impressions as "views" of his video.
