Were we 3 missed shots from taking the Bulls to 7 in 1993?

I apologize for this rather masochistic thread, but I wanted to get the takes of the old(er) guard that remembers this series better than I do.

So, I was about 8 years old in 1993, and as such, just remember bits and pieces (Triple OT, Dumas, Paxon, etc).

As luck would have it (or not! hah), I found a youtube complete broadcast (in Russian even!) of game 6 of the 1993 Finals.

Little did I know (or remember) that we seemingly had three pretty good chances of icing this game, or at least, making it that much harder for the Bulls to pull it out.

Fast forward to about 1:24:52

Things that stick out to me now that now, that didn't (or couldn't) back then:

>>>Dan Majerle's somewhat sudden pull up 3 with six seconds left on the shot clock that looked as if would bounce in...twice. (1:25:09)

>>>Paul Westphal making a rather ominous choking sign (with the benefit of hindsight, of course). 1:25:25

>>>Danny Ainge making a great play (and pass) to a wide open Frank Johnson @ 1:26:45.

>>>The Suns defense (seemingly) letting Jordan waltz coast to coast @ 1:26:53

>>>Frank Johnson driving and making a nice pass to a wide open Dan Majerle @ 1:27:20

And...y'all know what comes next.

But damn, only now do I realize just *how* close we were to being the only team to take the Bulls to 7.

Yup. We were tantalizingly close to winning that title. But then Paxson and MJ yanked it away from us. Heartbreaking.

1 & 106!

The Suns, Cardinals, Diamondbacks and Coyotes have 107 completed seasons between them and have produced one championship. Only Atlanta and San Diego have fared worse.

Also, the Dow is down 377 points today, and Keef is still a Sun.

Jordan was godlike in those series. Nothing short of an injury would have made the Suns champions. If there is a seventh game he might have scored 60.

By the way, the more old stuff I watch, the less I buy the 'defenses were better back then' rethoric, hand check and all.

Yep, that's a total myth parroted over and over through the years.

Majerle airballed a baseline jumper.

But KJ should've took it to the rack instead of stopping for a jumper. Oh well, if they would've played better defense in the first two home games things might have been different.

Barkley mentioned in an interview with Bill Simmons (ugh, that guylol) during SxSW that the Suns were just too nervous or whatever in the first two games of the 1993 Finals.

Sir Charles also intimated (in my mind, at least) that the series with the Rockets were more challenging than trying to deal with the Bulls - because they had no answer for Hakeem. Even still, how do you blow a 3-1.....yeeeah anyway.

Here's the interview (definitely worth a watch).
