Obviously, getting an offensive rebound has great value, since it effectively gives your team another chance to score. But if you send too many players to “crash the boards” in pursuit of a rebound, you leave yourself wide open to a fast-break opportunity by the opposing team.
So there is some optimization to be done here.
Well worth the read (especially if you are into analyzing NBA-related data.

Great piece Indy!
I almost never go for offensive rebounds since the chances of grabbing it are generally so slim. Always have placed more value on getting back to defense.
In my opinion the proper balance is having the shooter go back fast, along with two other players. One guy fishing for the ball and another floating around the guard to keep them from arming a fastbreak.
On the other hand, defensive rebouding is boss. Up to a certain point, even more important than defense itself (I actually consider defensive rebounding part of defense, but that's a different discussion).
So now the remaining question is this: are teams saving more than 4.3 points per 100 possessions by virtue of their improved transition defense?
I'd bet they are. You are just one transition 3pt and one mere layup away from having wasted your effort.
On the other hand, normally when you grab the offensive rebound the other team still has all its pieces placed on defense. It's true that sometimes the other guys are a little out of possition or distracted, and there are few player prone to leaking out (like Brewer or Warren) but unless you get the ball under the basket for a layup/dunk, the other team has more than enough time to recover. And since statistically you are not going to get the rebound under the basket at a high %, it means most times the new possession is a 50-50 (at best) extra attempt.
Not worth it, imo, unless you are truly elite at it.

Great, they gave Amin a radio show. Now a bigger stage to air his anti-Suns rhetoric.

I agree, but it's like the same rules with family. You can talk shit about your family all you want. When other people do, it's on...
It's worse with Amin because he left the family and dumps on them every chance he gets.

Yeah but does anybody really take Amin very seriously? I don't think he has a huge following.

Y'all should be sure to check out Woj's new podcast, the Vertical. First episode up, strictly basketball talk - phenomenal. If he keeps it up, it'll be better than Simmons's and Lowe's podcasts.

I think the 4th episode is already up.

Curry is crazy. Just turns completely around and looks at the Kings bench while the ball is still in the air.

Long over due for Billy King, but a bit surprised on the Hollins firing.

Does Billy King ever get another NBA job? I'd wager not. He was such a train wreck as a GM in multiple places.
I like Hollins a lot as a coach, but the fit just wasn't right there in Brooklyn. I think he may be done as an NBA head coach, too, due to his age.

Due to his age? I'm sorry but that is ridiculous. Age has nothing to do with it. If you can coach, you can coach. Sorry, youngster but you're talking out of your ass.

He's only 62. 62 is the new 47.

Judging by all the teams interviewing Coughlin 70 is the new 50.
