Re: 2018 NBA Draft Thread

Going into the draft right now, I am really high on Trae Young. JJJ is interesting. I regard him as the safest pick in the draft because he fits the Channing Frye mold of 3-point shooting big man who doesn't rebound, but plays good overall defense. If we took JJJ at 4 or 5, I'd be fine. People seem ...

Re: Elfrid Payton acquired!

Another good game from Payton. I'm impressed. How many consecutive great games from Payton before we stop counting and saying. "Well, it's on only been x games. Let's not get too excited." Mathematically? Somewhere between 25 and 30 to say with a high degree of confidence that his good ga...

Re: Game Day: Suns (18-40) @ Jazz (29-28), Wed 2/14/18

Jackson is officially over the Golden State game. Just like after the 0/13 game, showing again the ability to quickly bounce back Jackson hasn't had b2b bad games since mid December. And his bad shooting games are now usually tempered by good rebounding or passing. 4 games 3 games 6 games 2 games 5...

Re: Elfrid Payton acquired!

There's not a lot of cap space this summer. Lots of people in basketball are talking about how we went see the big contracts of the last two years this summer. Lou Williams just signed a 3 year 24 million dollar extension. That gives a better idea of what Payton will get. I really do not want to be...

Re: Elfrid Payton acquired!

Reggie Jackson - 5 years, 80 mil in 2015 Dennis Schroder - 4 years, 80 mil in 2016 Kyle Lowry - 3 years, 100mil in 2017 Jrue Holiday - 5yrs, 126mil in 2017 Jeff Teague - 3 years, 57 mil in 2017 Those are just a few contract signed in recent years by PGs. It's kind of hard to find a good comparison ...

I think not even Elfrid Payton can save us in this game. It could get very, very ugly. Barring an unexpected Norovirus outbreak in the GS locker room, I think this one's out of reach. Given how bad this was, I think we still might have lost even if the entire GS team spent the game barfing and defe...

Re: Elfrid Payton acquired!

Not sure this is the best place, but https://www.prosportstransactions.com/basketball/DraftTrades/Future/Suns.htm says it isn't expected to transfer this year. Am I missing something? “That moment when you can’t believe you are the team taking advantage...” I think either we agreed to just take him...

Re: Elfrid Payton acquired!

In some ways the weaknesses of our team mirror those of the Magic in recent seasons. We, and they, have a bunch of young guys without having very many who look like real keepers or stars. Both teams have not nearly enough shooters. Both teams have a glut of mediocre big men and an unclear pecking o...

Re: Elfrid Payton acquired!

This was a great trade. Payton is a distributor, and his metrics have improved every year he's been in the league. His RPM and PER are both above the median. His true shooting percentage has gone up every year. The knock on his game is his shooting, but the stats say it's getting better. In other wo...

Re: Suns News: Week 17 2/5-2/11

https://twitter.com/stevekylerNBA/status/961297632101588992 I'd love to get Randle back but I doubt we'd be able to get him. Maybe looking at a PG like Clarkson? Either way, I won't be upset if he's moved. I would be thrilled to get away from Chriss. I would consider ourselves relatively lucky if w...

"Marquese Chriss was among the listed inactives; he violated a team rule and was not in the arena."

Sigh. Kind of peg this kid as a knucklehead. Definitely lacking in the maturity department.

Re: Suns News: Week 16 1/29-2/4

I'd do that trade. Or maybe one involving Greg Monroe for something a bit nicer (1st round pick in a few years that's got limited protections?) plus Channing Frye, Green and Calderon?

We have enough pieces to make something good happen. The Cavs are desperate.

Re: 2018 Trade Deadline

In the case of Knight, he could be replaced by an actual cadaver without noticing a difference. Lmao For all we know, he has been. When was the last time he was seen alive? During he Cold War, this was known as the Andropov Syndrome; wherein someone who contracts this disease disappears for 6 month...

Re: 2018 Trade Deadline

The Suns have a lot of really bad contracts. Knight, Chandler, and Dudley are all very hard to trade. Indeed, 41% of our cap space is spent on players who could be replaced by a random league minimum stiff. In the case of Knight, he could be replaced by an actual cadaver without noticing a difference.

Re: 2018 Trade Deadline

Noah's contract goes on for 3 more years, and he doens't give us any more than Tyson. They'd have to offer us 2 unprotected firsts and take Knight off our hands for me to even consider it.

Choose passing and shooting. There's plenty of quantitative evidence that PGs have a limited effect on team defense compared with your front court positions.
