Re: Suns 2014: NBA Draft
I'm hearing/reading much local chatter about Adrien Payne. If he's available at #18, I hope the Suns nab him. I think the three I mentioned earlier will be gone by then. I've not seen him play, but based on what I've read, Payne seems to be a better version of Marcus Morris ... has a solid outside s...

Re: Suns 2014: NBA Draft
So, who would you pick at 14 if all of these three were available: Saric McDermott Lavine All fill an identified Suns' need. I might be inclined to grab and stash Saric. Lavine is a nice talent, and would give them needed size at guard. But Goodwin could develop as a better passer. McDermott could b...

Re: Goran Wins Most Improved
I would have put Markieff Morris before Green. Morris showed minute flashes in past seasons, but his work rate really heated up this season-- and his shot selection was better. As one pundit noted, Green has did what he always did, the difference being Hornacek gave him a longer leash and more playi...

Just got back from the game, 14th row, near midcourt. Playoff intensity in the second half. A few observations: * Tucker is not the best basketball player on the team, but he absolutely works his ass off and rarely lets up. If his man scores, it's because the guy has earned it. * Bledsoe had success...

Re: Around the League: Week of 3/24-3/30
I remember the Runnin' Rebs when Tark played 6 guys for most of the game, two of them splitting at center. Larry Johnson, Stacey Augmon, Greg Anthony and Anderson Hunt, with George Ackles and Elmore Spencer sharing the paint. More to the present, UofA is deep in talent, but Miller essentially plays ...

Re: Game Day: Suns (41-29) @ Wizards (36-34) , Wed 3/26/14
That game had the very best and the very worst moments of the season. In the third quarter the ball movement, shot selection and defense were superb as the Suns built the lead to 25. In the last 4 minutes or so, there were three Washington possessions where Phoenix played very little defense, especi...

Re: Around the League: Week of 3/24-3/30
After hitting their apex at 41-18, Portland has gone 4-9, losing to Orlando tonight. They have Atlanta, Chicago, Memphis and the Clippers before squaring off against the Suns. That's a difficult trail for Stotts' gang to blaze. Edit: Lakers, not Clippers. Still, they could go 1-3 over that span ...

Re: Around the League: Week of 3/17-3/23
Sam Lacey, a former NBA All-Star center who spent most of his 13-year career with the Kansas City Kings, has died. He was 66. In a statement released through the team Wednesday, Kings general manager Pete D'Alessandro called Lacey "one of the finest and longest-tenured players to ever don a Ki...

I have no problems if they miss the playoffs. They've have a good run during the season.

Re: Around the League: Week of 3/17-3/23
From the start of the season, everybody has penciled in the Spurs and Thunder as prohibitive favorites to reach the WCF. But the Clippers and Rockets are playing extremely well. I think either one could get to the WCF and that the Clippers could even reach the Finals. Also, can we officially declar...

Re: Game Day: Suns (38-28) @ Nets (33-31) , Mon 3/17/14
Nets beat Suns in Phoenix earlier in the season ... for whatever reason, it's not a good matchup for Phoenix. Plumlee seems to be overthinking on offense; when he catches the ball deep, he hesitates for a count or two, instead of taking it up strong. As I mentioned in another thread, for a majority ...

I thought 'Kief played well. Several nice deep post moves, plus 14 boards. I yelled at the TV when Hornacek took him out with about 5 minutes to go. Plums came in and was all thumbs; Kief came back in shortly after that.

Re: Steve Nash - The Finish Line
It's sad when a great athlete hangs on too long. I remember Willie Mays falling down in the outfield in Shea, going after fly balls that 10 years earlier he would have sauntered after and put away safely with a basket catch. I admire guys like Wilt and Jim Brown who walked away at or near the top of...

Re: Happy Eric Bledsoe Day!
Dragic reminds me more than a little bit of Paul Westphal, with all his "horse" game moves. I have no problem with Bledsoe at the point.
It would be nice if they had better passers up front. Too many guys try to dribble and get into jams.

Re: Happy Eric Bledsoe Day!
Thoroughly agree. This team has been fun to watch. I thought 30 wins was a stretch goal. Props to Hornacek and McD for finding the right guys who could mesh, and devising a simple, but effective plan of attack.

Re: Happy Eric Bledsoe Day!
Especially if (a very big if) they get a true spot-up shooter. It's not the offense that is bogging down; they aren't guarding anybody. It takes them about a quarter and a half to figure out who is hot, and by that time the other team is on a roll and up by 15 or more. Not that they played great D b...
