Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season

The data (i took a bit of liberty with Walton..): Player Rookie Season No. 82 game of Seasons "Average games / Season" "Average games started / Season" MPG PTS FG% No. of Seasons Since "Average games / Season" "Average games started / Season" MPG PTS FG% Khris...

Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season

Comments: - Number of games played is likely to go down - Player output for years 3 > 5 is a pretty good proxy for yrs 6 > 8 output Conclusion: - It will all come down to his health as to who wins the trade but it's not as one sided as it might appear...Suns fans might be overvaluing their asset in ...

Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season

Same criteria to select players but as we want to guess what Warren's next 3 years might look like, comparing 3 year periods to 3 year periods makes sense, so: -The first 2 years of each players data is removed leaving three years of data. This also removes the rookie adjustment period pretty well. ...

Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season

Cheers Bobster for the insight - the revised summary removing the various players looks like this*: Summary: ---------First 5 Seasons Ave.----Seasons after First 5 Ave.-------Change GP ---------55.2 ------------------------ 57.1---------------------------3.4% GS ---------36.9------------------------...

Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season

Yeah I need to drop the time period after 3 years as well for a better comparison as that’s how long is left on his contract.

But I’m at work - beer in hand at least - so it’s going to have to wait till tomorrow.

Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season

Something key that is missing in this analyses is that the Suns have not played a meaningful game after the all-star break in years--I would guess that TJ would be more likely to play more games that had playoff implications. My guess is that as he missed ~50% of his first two seasons and ~25% of h...

Yep. And that the 1998 and 2011 lockouts made those seasons a lot shorter...

Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season

Comments: - The 13 active players (~1/3 the sample size) arrived in the NBA up to 11 seasons ago (~1/5 the total seasons) suggesting players taking more time off for injury than they used to as precaution. - Khris Middleton (2yrs) and Paul George (4yrs) - a very small sample size - are doing better ...

Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season

I missed a filter on BBallRef, so here's the summary: Aim: To assess TJ Warren's possible output post-trade based on statistics of other "good players who were injury prone", defined as: - Played a minimum 5 seasons since the 82 game season began in 1967-68 - Total games played during firs...

Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season

Of course it's totally plausible TJ mailed it in the end of last season so he could address his ongoing injury problems at a deeper level, so 3 out of 5 seasons becomes only 2 out of 5 (60% to 40% probability), and if he's fixed his problems and he stays hot...

Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season

Keep in mind I'm a Suns apologist so my ability to be impartial is compromised, but breaking it down a bit further: 1. TJ's last season shooting % is really good but general jumps in shooting % across the NBA aren't particularly unusual - there's a good chance his improved % remains, in other words ...

Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season

My toughts exactly. Balanced take, but dumping Jackson was perhaps the only transaction close to market rates. I don't get the Warren dislike so much - yet, anyway - he hasn't played close to a full season ever, he really didn't fit the direction this team was going with his black hole tendencies a...

Re: Suns sign Rubio

You can play ball with a guard who can't score, it's just tough to score. That was the end of a historically low scoring era of bball and the Nets averaged 94 ppg in the playoff over those two seasons. Out best hope with Ricky is that he becomes a good spot up 3pt shooter, and that we get a stud at...

Re: Suns sign Rubio

Cherry picking a bit but J Kidd's first two years per 36 stats in NJ when they went to the finals vs Rubio's last two years in Utah (removing the noise but most other stats are very similar. Kidd had more steals - 2.15 vs 1.80, and less fouls - 1.55 vs 3.35, but Rubio had more FTA's 3.60 vs 3.25). I...

Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season

I worry about Clarke’s size and wingspan - nothing new there maybe - so I can’t see him amounting to too much more than a decent role player because of it, but he does have great timing and all around skill. NBA players tend to need to be really good at just one thing - role players anyway - and tha...
