You guys are right. Our offense is a well oiled machine with all the shooters and playmakers we have on the perimeter.

I don't believe in Igor being such a moron he doesn't want his team to play through Ayton. If he doesn't, there's a legit reason.
Only Crawford, Daniels and the corpse of Anderson have played for 5 years or more, seems to me that's the first year our young suns can play something else than hero ball (behalve Holmes and Oubre).

Come on, Shel and Mori. Ayton's not nearly ready for the offense to run through him. For the most part he's scoring on other players creating looks for him, putbacks and elbow jumpers. How many baskets has he scored that involved more than 2 dribbles? I agree that he should be getting more touches, but he's pretty mechanical in the post and can't break defenders down off the dribble. That'll hopefully come, but he's not there yet. At all.
Embiid gets the ball at the 3-point line and can shoot, back his defender down, drive, euro-step, make quick-read passes. I really haven't seen much of any of those from Ayton.

I just think some post ups could be helpful in the midst of a stretch where we're ISO'ing or coming down and just jacking shots. Or maybe to start the game to get him going, maybe get the other big in foul trouble, establish some easy/early offense? We simply don't play thru him at all. We don't play pick and roll to work mismatches in the post, our guys don't even look to throw an entry pass from the wings, we don't run any offense on the perimeter while he has the ball down low. Yea he's a rook and 20 years old and still raw offensively but I'm not asking for Embiid or Cousins. He's relegated to rolling and putbacks. He may not be Embiid but he's not Gobert or Capela either.

He does get some post touches. Sure we could probably go to him more, but he also doesn’t seem all that eager to use the ones he gets. He often throws the ball out to the perimeter and has even said he doesn’t like to force things on offense.
Holmes will do this thing where he has the ball in the high post and the offense calls for a pass or a DHO...the defense shuts that down and holmes defender will back off allowing Holmes to attack off the dribble. He’s actually been fairly effective at it, and I’d like to see Ayton start doing that. Ayton either waits for a pass to open up to reinitiate the offense or he just shoots the 18 footer.

Ultimately I agree that we shouldn't run all of our offense through him. And I also agree that he isn't ready for that yet. But I just think we should get him (and the rest of the team) used to passing the ball in to him over and over and over. They just don't look to him right now. Or if they do, they kind of limply try to send him an entry pass and either they abandon the plan when he's guarded or else they try to throw it and it gets stolen. They need to all practice it as if the offense depended on it.Shabazz wrote: ↑Thu Jan 03, 2019 6:27 pmCome on, Shel and Mori. Ayton's not nearly ready for the offense to run through him. 80% of those guys are 3+ years older, only 1 (Wendell Carter) in Ayton's age or younger.Cap wrote: ↑Fri Jan 04, 2019 8:18 amYou know who else is putting up great numbers? We just need to exercise some patience. Ayton's defense is an issue, but the team's defense and lack of quality big men outside of Ayton and Holmes are big issues too.
