Re: 2023 Free Agency Thread
Who is Diop? I’m a little confused.
As I recall Metu is an effort guy but probably too small to play the 5. I’d really like to get a bit more size at the backup 5.
Would love to just get Schroeder and Watford and call it a day tho.

Keita Bates-Diop. Started at the 4 for the spurs last year. 7’3 wingspan, defender, shot 39% from 3
Re: 2023 Free Agency Thread
Ah right. Sorry. Not sure why I keep thinking Desagana Diop. KBD and Okogie were both drafted by the wolves I believe, during their wingspan fascination period.

Herb Jones re upped with the pelicans. I like the Vincent pickup for the lakers. I hate the lakers and hope Gabe falls off a cliff post Heat like JRich did.

That's a blast from the past.
That Diop was a wide slab of a defensive center. Had zero offensive game ...
Lock him in gym with bag of basketballs and he'd had trouble scoring 20 pts. in an hour ...

I'm ecstatic with the Suns signing Japanese Cam Johnson.

Feels like the Lakers knew that there are offers coming for Austin Reaves that they won't be able to match. Picking up Vincent and (eventually, probably) losing Reaves feels to me like an overall wash.
Of course, like you, I basically wish for nothing but bad things to happen to current Lakers. Bugs the hell out of me that all the fans around here seem to think that they were super close to winning the title, despite getting swept.
Re: 2023 Free Agency Thread
Eubanks, Okogie, Yuta, KBD are all 'A' signings from me.
Metu a B- (I like him, but I think there will be other minimum guys who I like better).
I think Ish and Lee are redundant with what we have, but I guess are decent end-of-bench guys who won't complain. I would have preferred to use their spots on players who can create some offense and maybe a 3rd string rim-runner/big man defender.

What’s that saying? You can take the girl out of the jungle but you can’t take the jungle out of the girl? In this case you can’t take the idiocy out of bandwagon laker fans. There are some knowledgeable ones but the tools are much more vocal.BKinSJC wrote: ↑Fri Jun 30, 2023 5:18 pmFeels like the Lakers knew that there are offers coming for Austin Reaves that they won't be able to match. Well, that is some seriously good work by our front office so far.
Grade A for me with what we’ve had to play with.
I’d like another point guard as that’s seemingly the biggest weakness left but any other upgrades on our 4/5 positions would be an even bigger bonus.
The night is still young, even with 1.2 billion committed so far!

Re: 2023 Free Agency Thread
I am actually moderately high on Metu. I want a better defender but he is a capable and confident shooter from the 4 spot who offers a bit more bulk than your typical 3/4 tweeners who play the 4 because of “modern game”. Full of energy. But yeah I wish we had a real shot blocker on the team. No noise on Bamba… tho I guess he will never do a minimum deal so that’s a pipe dream anyway.

Can Metu shoot? I didn’t think he was a shooter

Pretty good FA haul...need Schroeder or another rabbit to call it a sweep...

Re: 2023 Free Agency Thread
I don’t know if he’s known as a shooter per se but in the few Kings games I watched he didn’t hesitate to launch from the outside. I would say he’s at least a Eubanks type shooter, someone nobody fears but have to respect a little bit. Not Okogie whom you leave wide open because your best defense is to let him shoot from 3.
Re: 2023 Free Agency Thread
I can’t tell what the kings are doing. I mean I get keeping Barnes, but why dump salary with a first round pick if you aren’t gonna make a splash with that cap space?

Watching Ryan McDonough and Tommy Sheppard roleplay a Sixers/Clippers deal for James Harden on NBATV was the unintentional comedy I was not expecting this morning.

Someone needs to offer Austin Reaves his max salary already...
