Doesn't Okobo already shoot the 3 almost as well as Kennard, percentage-wise? Without being unathletic and injured and costing a first round pick?

I’m not sure Kennard is the answer, but we’ve been complaining about needing more offense in the backcourt. Kennard can shoot and can play as a secondary ball handler. He’s also 23.

As INF says, there are some defensive questions. I’m not sure how he’ll hold up as he and Booker would have to share the court for at least 15-20 minutes. If the pick is lottery protected, it becomes more palatable.

No he does not

I don't understand how Sarver has put together THREE consecutive incompetent front offices. Incredible.

16/4/4 with 44/40/89 splits this year. He’s a good basketball player. I’m not sure about the fit though with Booker

Unless this first rounder is so heavily protected that it will most likely just turn into a 2nd round in couple years, this deal can fuck off.

Split, you can't keep making moves like this and expect to put together a contender.

I understand the concern...I’m not saying I’m in favor of the trade yet...just not ready to say it’s a bad one. I’ll wait to see the particulars. If it’s a protected 1st(one that retains its protection in subsequent years), then it’s not terrible. I’m gonna hold off on making a decision until I hear more.

Boy can shoot and is young. Whatever, pull the trigger. He’s an uprgrade from who we have now. The offense tonight was throwing up bricks.

I know INF hates hearing this, but from the looks of it, this is a turd of a draft. I like some guys who are projected to be in our range (Obi Toppin), but I'm OK with dealing those unknowns for some certainty.

Again, it's about maximizing the asset. I don't think Luke Kennard is the best we can get for our FRP, even protected. If that's on the table, aim higher.

But for reals...a first round pick??? WTF!!!!! For the the frozen guy!???
I’m not sure I want this front office making any draft picks. They suck at it. Plus we’re the youngest team in the league and we suck at developing young guys. I guess I’m at the point where trading is the only thing left that they haven’t totally screwed up.

Luke Kennard is fine, but he'll never be better than the first guard off of the bench a few times a month unless he's playing for other dumb franchises, like Detroit and Phoenix.

Giving up a probable lottery pick for him is dumb. The Pels just won the lottery on a 6% chance. There has to be someone better out there than Kennard if they're trading that pick.

With only 4 healthy decent players on the team last night, trading for a guy like Love should be no-no, but he's exactly what we need.

So if you could add in some optionality like Ryan McDonough did with his Milwauke trade:

- Bucks first-round pick to the Suns in 2018 if in the range of 11-16
- Bucks first-round pick to the Suns in 2019 if in the range of 4-16
- Bucks first-round pick to the Suns in 2020 if in the range of 8-30
- Bucks first-round pick to the Suns in 2021 unprotected

That was health related e.g.

- Suns ship the Cavs a moderate package today
- Suns ship the Cavs a late first rounder in 2021 if he's still playing then
- Suns ship the Cavs a lotto pick in 2022 if he's also still playing then

Something like that anyway, to hedge the injury risk.

There’s no way they don’t protect the pick at least somewhat. I’d be disappointed if we only protect it for partial lottery, should at least be protected for the whole lottery.

Right. So if they're considering giving up a 1st at all for a guy like Kennard then they should just screw the heavy protections and get someone who's better.

I'd like to see a deal with Brooklyn for Dinwiddie. I like the idea of having Rubio around but they need another shot maker at that position in the rotation badly. I'd be fine with trading Oubre and a first for Dinwiddie as the core part of the deal.
