Totally agree. It's frustrating to want to talk Suns bball with friends and find the site down. Good luck.

Bone: It is a play on my name for sure, but I didn't name it that because I had co-authors and didn't want it to be too blatantly named after me and implied to be just "my" book.

I tweeted Dreamhost, and they keep telling me they are looking into why it keeps going down.

They keep emailing me, telling me that they had an issue with their Apache logs and that it's now been resolved and things should be much faster now. But then they aren't, or they don't stay that way.

I sent them another email asking them if they'd please move us to a different physical server box. They say they can do that but it'll take a few days. Grr. Here's hoping.

Have you looked at the Apache access logs yet? You said there's been an increase in traffic, perhaps the site is getting hit with spam bots which is causing the increase, thus causing issues with the timeouts.

That's possible. Maybe you want to close registration? Or by approval only?

I have a bunch of other DH-hosted sites that are similarly locking up and they don't even have message boards on them. I think it's just the server.

Hey Mori, Dreamhost wants to move the site to another Apache instance, but they need approval from you first. https://panel.dreamhost.com/index.cgi?tree=support.msg&

Yeah, I think it's just the server too. When it works, it's fast.

In2, they emailed me too. I will give them the approval. Thanks for helping out!

It looks like there may have been an issue with the apache instance on
this server that was serving your site. I moved your domains to a new
apache instance on the same server, with IP address 69.163.152.205 - that
DNS change is propagating now. There shouldn't be any downtime as the
result of the move, but let me know right away if you see a
bad_httpd_conf error, or if you experience more of the previous downtime
after this.

Best,
Nick
Hmm, I think it's working now.
