Big article on Chris Paul in The Athletic this week, a ton of good stuff - here's a bit about CP and free agency and how CP turned down Philly
Ironically, sources say Philadelphia — with Morey having taken over the Sixers’ front office just weeks before Paul was sent to the Suns, and his former Clippers coach, Doc Rivers, part of their program too — made a spirited push to land Paul. The Sixers even believed there was some traction on a possible deal. The interest from Paul, however, was not mutual. With Paul targeting Phoenix as the best fit professionally and personally, and Presti in a much-improved negotiating position because of the way Paul had played, the Suns had won the CP sweepstakes.
Fast forward to modern times, and Paul finds himself playing a pivotal role in the same sort of competitive situation yet again while enjoying all the personal touches that came with this move to Phoenix. What’s more, the once-unthinkable notion of Paul declining his player option worth $44.2 million for next season to secure another long-term deal seems, in fact, quite thinkable. For Paul’s part, he swears there’s no clarity on his future just yet because, well, the present deserves all of his attention.

“I mean first and foremost, I love it here,” Paul said when asked about the option and whether Phoenix might be his final NBA stop. “I don’t know how many years I’ve got left. I don’t really think about that either. I feel too good.”

“Seriously, this summer, I have no clue. As much as I’m involved in the union and stuff like that, I don’t know what anybody’s teams are, (what their) caps are, I don’t know none of that stuff. I just play. And like I say, I’m lucky to have my brother, my brother who helps. I focus on playing.”
Spoiler: show/hide

Kind of a fun story today on The Ringer, about that memorable Suns/Nets game back in 2006.

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't that the Alvin Gentry YSMF game?
I thought the YSMF game was a playoff win against the Clippers.
I think it was the Nets game. I have it on a dvdr... But I don't have a dvd drive in any computer anymore.
I could swear it was this game. The shot that ended Daniel Ewing's career.

At least we know now. I was just wondering earlier today if he had a meniscus tear as I went through that personally.

Listened to the game theory podcast where Sam Vecenie had Nekias Duncan on. Nekias hot take was that he has the Suns in the finals...with the caveat that he’d need to see a fully healthy Lakers team.

I hear Dr. Bob Carver did a great job on his first ever surgery. Took a knife, cut some things, used big words. Time table for recovery- no fucking clue. Source- Roberto Sarverello, head athletic trainer who was interviewed at Party City picking up Cam Johnson’s ridiculous face mask.

Anything they got from Nader this year was gravy...
He's better than expected, but not exactly a lynchpin of the team.

Torrey Craig is obviously better so it doesn't really matter.

It does feel like we have a legitimate chance. But I think both of the LA teams are going to be really hard to beat. I don't think I would bet any money on us making the Finals this year, but I don't think it is crazy at all.

The main worry I have is that our wings seem to disappear in big games. It ends up being CP3 and Book trying to do everything because the others are ice cold shooting. I don't think we can win the tough playoff series unless other guys show up.

And I bet Craig’s numbers look better if you only count his time in Phoenix

Our depth is one of our greatest strengths. We have almost nobody on the entire roster about whom I say, "Oof, he's bad, get him out of there and back onto the bench." It's an impressive roster construction, despite being a little thin at backup big-man spots.
