Suns Summer League 2023
Re: Suns Summer League 2023
The other most intriguing ones to me for 2-ways are Keanu Pinder and Louis Olinde

I just don't think he has anything to prove or accomplish in summer league; I think we'd be better off giving his time to other players.

Re: Suns Summer League 2023
Thoughts on potential of Trey Jamison and Gabe Brown for a two way if they play well in the summer league? Or is there another name we should look at?

Re: Suns Summer League 2023
This might be a disappointing proposition, but any chance Josh Jackson might have matured a bit and learned some humility? Because at 6'8 with a toolsy defensive skillset, he might he good off the bench if Vogel can get through to him? Low key Gerald Wallace for us maybe?

Ah, I forgot this was the summer league thread. I thought you were saying he didn't belong on the Suns.

Lol. No, it was a welcomed surprise to see him included in the deal.

I suppose we could make this a general Summer League discussion.
I can't believe they're already playing games again today...

NBA to test in-game flopping penalty at summer league

The NBA will be testing out a proposed in-game penalty for flopping during summer league, according to an announcement by the league Tuesday.
A flop, which will be determined by referees at the game, will be penalized by awarding the opposing team one free throw and possession of the ball. The player who commits the flop will be assessed a unsportsmanlike technical foul, which won't count toward personal fouls or lead to an ejection.
Officials won't be required to stop live play to call a flopping violation.
The league in 2012 implemented an anti-flopping rule that resulted in a warning and then an increasing amount of fines for every subsequent violation. However there was no in-game penalty and the rule has rarely been enforced since its implementation a decade ago.
The NBA defined a flop in 2012 as "an attempt to either fool referees into calling undeserved fouls or fool fans into thinking the referees missed a foul call by exaggerating the effect of contact with an opposing player."
The NBA's board of governors will meet later this month to vote on any rule changes for the upcoming 2023-24 season.

I like that idea. Maybe make the technical count toward ejection.

Re: Suns Summer League 2023
Maybe do that down the line after some standards have been established.
I'd worry they'd stop the game to review every "flop" if the penalty was a technical foul right away.

Re: Suns Summer League 2023
That may be the case, but I don’t think it would last long.
Re: Suns Summer League 2023
What's the point? The current rule is never enforced. Maybe they should try that first before a rule change.

Re: Suns Summer League 2023
Gotcha, ya I remember they enforced it for like 2 months
Re: Suns Summer League 2023
What also annoys me is that defensive players are required to flop to get a call from a ref. For example, if an offensive player continually bumps into a stationary defender and dislodges him, that is an offensive foul; the defensive player shouldn't have to shoot himself out of a cannon (i.e. flop) to get the ref to make the call. They need to fix stuff like that before they change the rules, imo.
