Kieff couldn't be bothered to help on defense or block out. He just kinda watched.

We have time outs, why the fuck wouldn't you sub offense for defense and get Len in there so that shit doesn't happen.

We should be better defensively than we are.

These games have been pretty depressing as of late.

Another disappointing effort.

phx beat teams they are supposed to beat, and lose to teams they are supposed to lose.

Caught up late on this one due to family dinner; folks in town for turkey day weekend. Bright spots: Knight's 1st quarter. His overall stat line looks good too, but that's misleading. Leuer's big 20 points and 9/15 shooting. Warren's 18 points on 8/13 shooting. 8 boards for Len.
Bad games for Bledsoe, Morris, and Teletovic (2/9 shooting including 1/5 on 3s). Not a huge fan of Tele in the rotation. General offense, especially at the end of the game.

I spent a lot of time this game being mad at Hornacek. I thought Len played well, protecting the paint and giving us second chance opportunities - no matter, Hornacek goes with the gunners throughout the second and fourth quarters. TJ brought our offense back to life in the third - no matter, Hornacek takes him out down the stretch. Booker played well, and Price wasn't doing anything to slow Ish - no matter, Hornacek goes with the vet in the 4th.
This game was juuuuuust a bit more disappointing than the Wolves win. Don't look now, but it seems like we may have given away a pick in the mid-teens for 25 meaningless games of Brandan Wright.

I was going to post something similar. Booker had a strong first half. Doesn't play in the second half. Price gets time instead and made an open 3, but did little of note on D. I'm pretty sure Knight played the whole second half, too.OE32 wrote:I spent a lot of time this game being mad at Hornacek. We should have brought Ish back over Price, but I'm sure a lot of teams (especially Philly) are kicking themselves for not bringing him in.

he probably wouldn't mind. You can tell he is quite exasperated with this group.TheOriginalOriginal wrote:Can we dump Hornacek yet?

I see more heat being applied to him publicly. Various articles about how he elected to go with small ball and how our bigs are sitting

I have no confidence in this team right now in close games down the stretch.carey wrote:Our crunch time offense and defense is terrible. I can't remember the last time we won a tight game like this.

One more thing about Hornacek - while playing time decisions can be doubted, there's no doubt that the decision to continue going under the pick on Ish Smith cost us points. For some reason, no matter how many shots that guy made, we simply refused to believe he would hit the next one. You'd think a former player would understand that these are NBA players, and even if they are inconsistent shooters, sometimes, you just get in a rhythm. We refused to adjust, and it bit us.
I was willing to put up with rookies sitting that first year, when I thought it might be a circumstantial thing. But this is three years in, and I don't think it's arguable - this is dispositional. And I do not like it.

The only thing I'll say in defense of Hornacek is, this is a flawed team and I'm not sure it is capable of being that much greater than it is. The backcourt just isn't set up to lead a team or run an offense. They don't pass. They don't know how to run a pick-and-roll. They look to shoot first, second, and third, both of them. That is the recipe for a team being less than the sum of the parts.

The offense is basically "live by the jumper, die by the jumper'
They don't get enough consistent player movement or ball movement to do much else since they don;t really post up or run the pick-and-roll very well.
Signing Chandler and consigning Len to limited minutes means they're not getting much offensive production from their centers, and using Tucker as SF means they're not getting much offense from their either.
Some nights they're going to look really good, some nights they're going to look really awful. probably another .500 team, and another late lottery pick.
