The best ability is availability and he hasn’t been available enough to warrant that contract.
I felt like the Suns reported offer was very generous. If he can stay healthy through the end of the year I would offer him that same contract again or look to move either him or Mikal in an upgrade for a star
Btw, I thought this was interesting, in a small sample size.

My hope is that Cam agrees to a reasonable deal for both sides or that they trade him as part of a deal for a player so good I forget about who we even traded outIn2ition wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 2:22 pmFair enough, that seems reasonable. True. You didn't specify when to fire him. Just that you want him fired.JeremyG wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 11:42 amYou never heard me call for doing either. This isn't accurate. He's had two significant absences in his 3.5 years and only last seasons leg contusion can be viewed suspiciously, IMO. I don't worry at all about a meniscus repair, that seems slightly less common than a sprained ankle or knee in the NBA. He averaged 61 games played in his first three seasons, while NBA "stars" missed an average of 28 games last season. If you want to knock him for his health, I guess you could say he's a slow healer, but again, that's only due to the injury last season which he's clearly put behind him now.
It's only an 11 game sample, but if he continues this pace, he will easily command $100M+ on his next deal. 44% on 6+ 3PA is elite shooting, and just as valuable as Mikal's defense by comparison.

The problem with Cam & his injuries is we were supposed to use this season to see how his thin frame would hold up starting & defending NBA power forwards for a season. It lasted a week. That might not have you concerned but it does me. I need him back playing starter's minutes asap.
Go Suns!

IIRC, he clashed knees with another player. I don't think that has anything to do with his "thin frame", which isn't so thin anymore.

And THEN fire him. No matter what happened to end the season. Do I have it right? Or is it only if he doesn’t win an NBA championship? Or should it happen if Ayton doesn’t lead the league in shot attempts? I’m not sure exactly what your parameters are.JeremyG wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 3:45 pmI've always said to give him until the end of the season.Superbone wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 3:07 pmTrue. You've also said #FireMonty several times this season.
So you are consistently playing both sides. Good strategy.

When I started the Monty thread I said that I expected him to be fired after one more underachieving end to the season. For me personally, the criteria would be championship or bust at this point.Superbone wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 3:50 pmAnd THEN fire him. No matter what happened to end the season. Do I have it right? Backing up the Brinks truck for shooting specialists hasn't worked for most teams. Brooklyn (Joe Harris), Washington (Davis Bertans), and Miami (Duncan Robinson) can all attest to that.Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 3:23 pmIt's only an 11 game sample, but if he continues this pace, he will easily command $100M+ on his next deal. 44% on 6+ 3PA is elite shooting, and just as valuable as Mikal's defense by comparison.

That is true, but Cam is far more athletic than those three guys and isn't a traffic cone on defense. He's more likely to be a modern Bob Horry.INFORMER wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 4:04 pmBacking up the Brinks truck for shooting specialists hasn't worked for most teams. Not saying he’s Klay, but Klay is also mostly a shooting specialist. He’s somewhere between Klay and Duncan Robinson. Just needs to be closer to Klay than Duncan Robinson. Korver is another example of a shooting specialist who was fairly valuable.
