The flopping rule has the potential to go very badly.

It's usually pretty apparent, Luka, Smart, Bev, Paul and even Book gonna need to tighten it up.

I think it'll be another one of those things that gets called for 3 weeks in November and then basically never again unless someone has a reputation and commits an egregious flop.

I think it's a good change. It's probably true that it won't be enforced consistently after a few weeks, but I do think having an in-game penalty for flopping (as opposed to a possible penalty later, way after it could possibly matter) is a good thing.

My main point is it's a highly subjective call. Part of the reason players flop is that refs often make calls based on the result rather than the contact itself. A player charging into or hacking Embiid vs doing the same to Ty Jerome will produce a different result, but the refs don't always call that contact the same way, so Embiid needs to sell the contact. I'm not justifying flopping, but players are taught to fall, flail, whatever, not necessarily to grift, but to draw attention to the foul. There's a line there and we're now relying on refs to determine it in real time. They should reserve it for only the most egregious cases.

I'm with you guys and think it will fall by the wayside like every other "point of emphasis" after a month or two.

There's a big difference between "exaggeration" flopping (I was legitimately hit, but I'll flail my arms a bit extra to make sure the ref sees) vs. "bullshit" flopping (I didn't even get hit, but I'll drop to the ground like a sniper shot me). I want a rule in place where a ref who spots the latter kind of behavior can immediately punish it in a way that affects the current game. And if the refs don't actually call it 100% of the time when it should be called, well, so be it. There's a traveling rule, it doesn't always get called; that doesn't mean they should just drop the rule. First you get the right rules in place, then if there are enforcement issues, you work on those second.

"A player who commits a flop will be charged with a non-unsportsmanlike technical foul.”

So, if you get rid of the double negatives, wouldn't it be a sportsmanlike technical foul? ;)

Oh, man! I got a good laugh out of that. That AD woman should star in the next Tyler Perry flick.

This 3-point performance by Sabrina Ionescu of the NY Liberty is absolutely nuts.

I watched it live in the arena and it was so cool how hyped the crowd was getting as she put on that show.

I don't think Lebron is the GOAT. But a couple of clips of him flopping don't make a very compelling argument. To me it's much more about his repeatedly choking in the Finals and going, what is it, 4/10 when MJ would absolutely never let 6 (SIX!) titles slip through his fingers like that.
