Around the League: May 2014

Post by Gladiator »

Obviously the playoffs are front and centre but I thought it would be useful to have somewhere to put all the other (not Donald Sterling) off-season happenings.

To kick things off, the Knicks want to finalise a deal to make Steve Kerr head coach by the end of the first round of the playoffs

steve kerr should just wait until the first round is over to decide (slots at OKC, GSW or HOU could open)

Dunno where to post this, but: Is anybody else totally sick of most of these commercials during the playoff games? The beer ones are really bad. The Corona "throw your shoes into the air" one is horrible, and the Dos Equis man literally says the same thing every single commercial break: "Don't rush into Cinco. Start with Dos." Okay, I get it.

Then there's the really bizarre Vitamin Water commercials withthatguytalkingreallyfastwithaBritishaccent. "Try it!"

You missed the two worst:

1 - the DirecTV ad where the guy's wife has wires. "Who said weird? I said not weird."
2 - The hipster coffee shop owner lady tablet ad. "I'm the boss"

Both commercials make me want to jam an ice pick in my brain.

I like the vitamine water ones, but I agree that most advs are pretty bad. It's either an attempt to be impacting or funny, and usually ends up failing cheesily. The Ford truck is not the worst.

And the Adidas one with Lillard, Webber and Malone is nice the first time but gets old pretty quickly.

I can't believe Karl Malone agreed to do that ad. It makes him look like such a pussy. "Burgers are ready." So he's all those other guys' servant, their chef? Come on, Mailman, show some pride. I hope he got a lot of cash for that.

Woah, reading too much into his role. It's just fun, but instead of hurt feelings and the sorry burgers are ready line I would have liked to see Malone trying to kill Lillard while the others struggle to contain the beast as Lillard looks comically scared. With all sorts of stuff flying around, including the burgers, etc.

Haven't seen the commercial yet but in my family the oldest patriarch mans the grill. Definitely a position of respect.

He should go to Minny and coach Rubio and Love. He was never a good fit for LA.

He should've taken the job at Marshall.

Minny would be a good fit for D'antoni.

Bigger question....who coaches the Lakers?
“Kobe had said (after the play) I wasn’t hugged enough as a child,” Bell recalled. “My mom kind of found him after the instance and we had beat them and offered him a hug in the bowels of the Phoenix arena. She really feels a part of that story.”

One on the endless list of things I got wrong. I thought he'd be great on L.A. I didn't foresee Nash getting hurt & losing his game. Howard being a punk. Kobe getting hurt. It's laughable to think anyone would have done anything more for that team this year tho.

Earvin Magic Johnson ‏@MagicJohnson 2h

Happy days are here again! Mike D'Antoni resigns as the Lakers coach. I couldn't be happier!
Pretty classless for a guy who did a much shittier job when he was in the same spot.
