2019 NBA Draft Lottery

Post by Superbone »

http://www.tankathon.com/

Tomorrow at 5:30 pm is the moment of truth. Tonight I went 6-2-1. I'm strangely calm about the whole thing. The fact that we finally got a #1 overall last year helps a lot. Even though it's a top 2 heavy draft, I'm relaxed about the lottery this year.

My prediction is #4 - which guarantees us anything but #4. Obviously hoping for a top 2 pick but just keen to see what we land with and start thinking about what that might lead to. Fingers crossed for some more good draft luck!

Mine is 5. Pick 4 is where we finally go over the 50% mark in combined likelihood of pick, and we know we won't be lucky enough to be in the top half of probability. :)

We need 1 or 2 but I'm hoping just as much that the Knicks don't get 1 or 2.

This /\/\

Hate that Ewing is going. Stinks of gifting it to them.
Can’t see us with the number one pick of last year going also being awarded the number one pick this year as well.

But one or two would be great.

Of course, #1 feels like it would change everything.

But I won't be mad about really any other position. There's a chance Ja falls to 3 or 4, and I would honestly be just as happy with Clarke. It's not the draft position, it's who we pick. We've got to pick an nba player.

Does anyone really still think the lottery is rigged--I mean besides those folks that think the earth is flat or that humans don't impact the environment or that vaccines are bad--Seriously wondering.

I think the league would love for the Knicks to get Zion. If the Knicks get the #1 pick, I'll consider it rigged. I'm not saying that's rational.

I think that is the most likely outcome (tied with Cleveland and us). Sounds like you are setting yourself up!
By the way, have you ever watched the stuff the release afterwards where they draw all of the balls to see the draft order?

In an informal memoir from Red Aurbach, Red complains about how in the early days of the NBA, the board of governors would sit down and plan ways to help NY win because they needed the revenue from that fanbase. It's been a while since I read it, but I believe there was a time when NY was simply given an extra pick so that they could rebuild faster.

I don't know if it's rigged or not, but I do believe the NBA would rig it if they could.

I changed my mind. I think it will be 4th, because we have such awesome luck at that spot... if you go back 40 years.

Draft history:

Code: Select all

Pick Freq Players Chosen w/Pick All-star appearances All-NBA appearances
  1 1 D. Ayton 0 0

  2 2 N. Walk, A. Gilliam 0 0

  3 0 --------------- - -

          C. Calhoun, J. Shumate
  4 5 A. Adams, D. Bender 1 0
          J. Jackson

  5 2 W. Davis, A. Len 6 2 (2nd team)

  6 1 W. Bedford (ouch) 0 0

  7 2 T. Perry, $$+J. Vroman 0 0
                   (traded L. Deng)
Totals: 13 players chosen in top 7. Two picks resulted in all-star/NBA honors. Ugh.

Holy shit. I wonder if there is a worse record in the league at that?

[edited because I missed AA's all-star appearance]

Seems like the 3rd position is due.

I was thinking about it while mowing the lawn. If it's really rigged, best way to "proove" it isn't is to give the #1 to the suns again. Nobody will think the NBA wants Sarver to succeed. Go on NBA, do it !!!

When you have it overseen by an independent accounting firm, no.

All the rigging takes place when the teams are tanking.

When you consider the legal ramifications if the commisioner's office acted in tandem with a team to rig the outcome - even Josh Jackson would be stupid enough to do that. There would be 29 other teams lining up to extract their pound if flesh.
