You can play ball with a guard who can't score, it's just tough to score. That was the end of a historically low scoring era of bball and the Nets averaged 94 ppg in the playoff over those two seasons.
Out best hope with Ricky is that he becomes a good spot up 3pt shooter, and that we get a stud at pg in the draft next year for him to mentor.
Different era and not quite an apples to apples comparison, agreed, more to make a point that you can win with a lead guard that can't shoot.
I still maintain, largely ignorantly, that a team of passers with a good offensive system should be able to do just that, and Booker with his 7 assists / 36, Rubio 10 / 36 (Minny stats), Saric 3 / 36 (and from various accounts a better passer than this number gives him credit for) is a pretty good start, especially with a gift in the post like Ayton.
I fully expect Booker’s assist rate to drop off from last season as we move away from point Book.
Agree - I also predict Rubio will go >10 assists per game for the first time in his career (looking at Nash's stats he jumped to >10 for the first time in his career when he rejoined us from Dallas, at the age of 30, going from 8.8 to 11.5. I suppose I should be clear at this point that I'm not equating Rubio to Kidd or Nash - he's about $3 to their $5 - just that there's some pretty interesting similarities happening here).
I'll restate that - I think he's a good chance to get to >10 assists eventually, maybe not in his first season.

I think Booker will still run a good deal of our half court offence. Rubio will run the break, bring the ball up, and initiate the offence, but the ball will be in Booker's hands very often. I don't expect his assists to drop, and I don't expect Rubio's to climb much.

I’d disagree. One of the glaring weaknesses of Booker playing point was his inability to feed Ayton, or anyone else in the paint for that matter. Coach Williams’s has already said that he was looking forward to getting a point that can feed our franchise big. Rubio is that man.
I expect Books assists to drop but not by too much but Rubios to climb and the best thing is the team assists to climb to a much better rate as Saric also is able to feed others.

Rubio's the white Dennis Johnson. Good defender, good midrange jump shooter, not athletic, not known for three pt shooting.
The rubio ayton 2 man game is Ricky feeding ayton in the post, and if ayton gets doubled, he kicks it out to Rubio for the wide open 18 footer.
I don't expect a lot of PNR from these two.
In what world is there enough room between Ayton in the post and Rubio at 18 feet to not have pretty much any defender in the league be able to guard it well?

Very possible. We didn’t really add any scorers to the lineup. Our overall offense should be improved and Ayton is really the only obvious candidate for significantly more touches. We lost the Warren/Melton/Jackson/Bender touches. Booker will play more off the ball and should get better looks with better teammates. Even if his touches decrease a bit, he could score more points.
Also, he was already putting up 30+ the 2nd half the season on .600+ ts%

We were also the 2nd worst scoring team in the west, only behind Memphis. We need to get 8 more points per game to be competitive. And even then, that wouldn't be enough to cover our differential from last year.
There were only 5 teams last year that had a worse differential than a single made 3 pointer. We needed more than 3 made threes to close the gap (-9.3).

Rick Rubio's teams have averaged ~33 wins per season. If you only include his time in Minnesota, he averaged 28.8 wins per season. The wolves were significantly better in the two seasons after he left. Betting on the under for 30 games is a tight bet, but reasonable given the evidence.
