Is it telling that the Spurs passed on Hali too?

Want to remain optimistic, but it would be good to know if we had a clear plan... I've been on record with my frustration with the backup pg spot for the past several years. I was hoping Hayes/Haliburton could put an end to that madness. Maybe we think Payne is the future?

Couldn't we have traded down to #15-20 and picked Smith there? Nobody seemed to think he would go this high. Jones seems to draft good players but doesn't seem to know what spot they "should" be drafted at, so he doesn't use our draft assets maximally.

I get the feeling we had guys higher than him, but didn't think they would be there so already made a promise.

I don't dislike Smith. I just loved Haliburton.

Smith was a top 10 mocked player for most of draft season. It’s not really the reach ppl think it is.
Go Suns!

That would just be a dumb thing to do.

I like having Smith. My question is what could have we added by trading down.

Good way to phrase it. I wouldn’t have passed on Haliburton for Smith either.

THat only matters if you know your guy will be there at 15 and the team at 15 wants their guy at 10 (plus willing to pay more for it).

We didn’t pick Smith all that high, I think Pelicans would have taken him at 13. I’m only upset we passed on Hali

Is James Jones too lazy to trade down? Or is he too scared?

That's exactly how I feel and how I felt last year.

In 5 years it'll be interesting to see if I still like Clarke and Haliburton more than Johnson and Smith.

We really need to find that PG to sit behind Paul though.
