Game Day: Nets (17-12) @ Suns (17-9), Tues 2/16/21

Post by Superbone »

Time: 8:30 pm AZ (7:30 pm PT/10:30 pm ET)
Place: Phoenix Suns Arena, Phoenix, AZ
TV: FSAZ, TNT

Harden and Irving come to town looking to topple the Suns and stop their six game winning streak. The Suns have other ideas. Steve Nash comes home for the first time as a head coach. It's the Nets versus the Suns. Next...on TNT.

Go Suns!!!

Their defense is awful, but we have to make them pay for that. Especially inside. This is the game for Deandre to stand out.

Deandre...Ayton or Jordan? The nets went small with Bowen, Harris and Jeff Green in the frontcourt. We'll see if we matchup with them or if force them to match up with us.

Kyrie and Harden are explosive. Can't let Joe Harris get hot either. I might start Bridges on Kyrie or Harden and put Book on Harris?

Durant is out for this game, if I remember correctly. That helps our chances a bit. Really curious to see what the scoring total looks like in this one. Nets play awful defense, but they score in bunches. Can we keep up? I feel like we win this one if our wings decide to start raining 3s on them. But if guys like Bridges, Cam, and Book aren't hitting from 3, we may have a hard time matching their firepower.

Do you think we have Bridges take the defensive assignment on Harden? You probably want that instead of having Booker guard him, right?

Yes, Bridges on Harden for sure. Nets play small, so be interesting to see if we stick with Kaminsky in the starting lineup

Monty might consider a combo of Bridges, Booker, Crowder and perhaps Nader dogging Harden.

Do not see Frank playing much because of the lack of size of the Nets lineup. More time for Saric.

I'm thinking Paul and Booker sort of match/cancel Irving and Harden, so the difference needs to be bench production for the Suns.
Moore, Galloway, Payne, Cam and Saric need significant contributions.

Let's hope Nets are a bit gassed after last night's game ...

Yea was going to say I could see Nader getting some time, maybe at the 4 even. He's a good guy to get under Harden's skin too. At the very least, he's 6 extra fouls.

Nader reminds me somewhat of Rick Fox. Not a great player, but sort of a Swiss-Army-knife type.

He's definitely serviceable. I like that he's a little gritty and plays with an edge. We need that.

Really confused by the Nets starting lineup last night versus Sacramento. Jeff Green at Center? Joe Harris at PF?

Typical 7SOL/speed lineup. They traded Jarret Allen and have DAJ off the bench.

Typical to play what you think are your best (offensive) players and spread the floor out. We had Amar'e to dive as a great PnR threat and he became automatic from 16-18 ft. But we started Shawn at the 4 too and MikeD seemed reluctant to use defensive bigs like Steve Hunter who had no offensive game. It helped that Bagley and Barnes were starting up front for the Kings but Whiteside also had 26/16 and 5 blocks in 24 minutes off the bench.

Houston started Jeff Green at C a lot last year...Mike D is there in Brooklyn now.

Jeff Green has been very solid
DJ doesn't really impact games that much these days

So that small ball lineup as others said is formidable.
I like how some are suggesting Nader getting some run because haven't seen anybody talking about Kyrie who has been on a tear since everyone ripped him for leaving the team unannounced

If we starting with Mikal on Harden, then is CP dealing with Kyrie ??
Or do we start Jae on Harden and put Mikal length on Kyrie. That's where Nader coming off the bench with Cam as the bench forwards might be in play. Will be surprised if Frank plays much if at all.

If Mikal checks Harden and goes to the bench when he does , when Kyrie returns do we bring in Jevon to mark him ?

So yes will be interesting how we defend but they shouldn't be able to stop us and as expected even when they play decent D they give up offensive rebounds

This game is very winnable, IMO. We have the bench to really keep up the scoring when BRK slows down, and to try different defensive matchups. I also think the Suns are the more mature team, and can keep their heads if the game gets chippy.

I don't think we see Frank at all tonight unless we have foul trouble. Crowder starts at PF, and we will see some time for Jevon Carter. I feel like this can be a nice momentum game for Cam Payne. He will love the speed of the game. Cam Johnson will get plenty of open shots.

My only concern is that the refs give the game to Harden.

Oh, and I think the smaller lineup will not bother DA as much as the Nets may hope. He can defend the perimeter and the Nets don't complex sets, so we should see some of his best defense tonight.

And although Amare was listed as 6-10, I thought he was shorter than that. Like the way Barkley was always listed at 6-6 but was a lot shorter.

This is the game to make sure we don’t just settle for 3s. Brooklyn has no rim protection and is a terrible defensive team overall. Should attack the rim over and over.
