There wasn’t a great replay of that Ayton screen, but I did think we may have gotten away with one there.

Can you imagine calling a defensive three second violation on the last possession of a game?

It wasn't any worse than most pin-down screens that occur throughout the game.

I read the report and it said he extended his arm into DiVencenzo and that’s where the foul was.

Well if you watch the video, he was in the lane for the last 10.3 seconds.

Oh, and not mentioned, Paul passed Magic tonight for 5th all-time in league history in assists. Wow.
If he doesn't miss any games and averages 12.8 assists the final 15 games, he can pass Steve Nash for 3rd place this season.
Is it just a regular season stat? Do they keep separate season and playoff stats? I guess so.
Yep, they're separate stats.

Oh, I'm not doubting it. Just pointing out the hypocrisy of L2M reports when everyone knows the game is officiated differently on the last possession.

"Bucks did not have possession when they called timeout with 2.5 left"

No duh.

That would have been classic if we had won on a 3 second call with 0.1 seconds remaining and a FT to win the game.

I still remember going all the way back to the 93 team when we had a 13 or so game win streak that was snapped by the Spurs, when they literally had 6 players on the court for the last play of a tied game and no tech was called, and then we proceeded to lose in the OT period.

That last foul call on Booker's shot, I actually was a little surprised by the foul call... Didn't think that amount of contact would've been called for a foul in such a high leverage end of game situation. The timeout granted at the end of regulation was gawd awful though.

Overall I thought the officiating was solid except for that timeout one.

Great win.

I really wish that was the pass that put him ahead of Magic. It would have been so fitting.

(And I just have to say that we all know if Magic didn't have to cut his career so short, he would be above even Stockton in assists.)
I don't know about that. He would have had to play almost 8 more full seasons at 9 assists per game.

Stockton led the league in assists for 9 straight years and then averaged about 8.5 assists for 7 years after that.

Even projecting that Magic didn't miss time due to HIV, very few players have ever had the durability of Stockton.
Maybe not as clear cut as I made it out to be. But Stockton had the extremely friendly Utah scorers tallying his up, and he still didn't beat Magic's career per game numbers (11.2 for Magic, 10.5 for Stockton).

Could be my bias for Magic's game over Stockton's game coming through.
Could also be your bias against Utah. You seem to get a dig in every chance you get.

I'd prefer to go the other way and just accept that it's a game played by humans and officiated by humans, both of whom make mistakes.

I think most people will forgive the mistakes, just call the game consistently regardless of the score or time on the clock

Oh -- but they won't. Too many unconscious or even conscious biases.

I happen to know that the NBA put a data scientist in charge of enforcing fairness...and also handling gambling. Read between the lines and you will see Donoughey.

And not just him. There is no way it isn't still going on, and he was even pretty clear about how his crew chief highlighted certain things to watch the Suns for, but not the Spurs because he hated Sarver.

Hence, I'm a big believer in training algorithms to ref. If I had more time and computing power, I could almost do it myself as a hobby.

Baseball still isn't using it to determine balls and strikes, but they've had the technology for over 20 years to do it extremely quickly and reliably.

It is a lot harder in the NBA, and I just don't see the refs and their union giving in on it. But it would be great to try, or at least start with publicly available data on how often a team of refs miss a call/call something they shouldn't. And at what point in the game it happens.

I've mentioned a couple times about DA postgame interviews and seeing a kid that is growing up. I usually don't share these cause Shel does such a good job with the tweets that I don't think people need to see the actual interviews too. Just a lil thing I do when I have free time on my hands lol but honestly everything doesn't get tweeted.
Either way for those who might need help like me or have nothing better to do :)

Usually Book is very stoic even after wins so nothing much to see smh  but was in a good mood last night

The Ringer Mistmatch podcast talked about this Suns Bucks game briefly, and O'Connor is notoriously a Suns supporter, but even then they only mentioned that the last second foul to give Booker the free throws would usually not get called at the end of the game and didn't mention the illegitimate time out call at the end of regulation at all.

Not that I get all that worked up about this. These things probably just don't matter as much to fans of other teams and NBA pundits.

Well KOC did agree it was a foul...as a suns fan it was a great ending, but I think most fans are understandably bummed that the game ended on free throws.
