Good number there for him, another young part of the core locked in.

Utterly disgusting. Why not give the $43 million to Ayton and sign a vet min. player instead? Spend the same amount of money and avoid disaster!

Wow, it's almost like James Jones knows how to sign guys to good contracts.

It is telling that there isn't a single contract announced this summer that I would say we overpaid on.

$207M - $172M = $35M

If we were willing to give Ayton the $172M, then we could have afforded even a supermax for Ayton if we hadn't extended Shamet for $43M.

We must feel pretty good about Shamet. It’s not a crazy amount, but it’s maybe a bit more than I would have spent.

We clearly just don’t trust Ayton as a max player yet. He can get that deal if he plays up to it this season.

Though I will say, committing this money to Shamet does make me think we might choose to move on from Ayton if we can find a reasonable replacement.

I think you're right. I bet they only gave Shamet the money once they couldn't make a deal with Ayton, because they are now planning on letting him go.

there is no way in hell they are letting him go. They may trade him, but they are not letting him go for nothing.

Ya by no means did I mean just let him walk, but S&T him next summer for a cheaper piece that fits what we want to do. Truth be told, Ayton has never been a great offensive fit in Monty’s system.

So how long until someone does a gif or meme of that block Giannis had on Ayton but with a bag of 207M instead of the ball?

Also can I just say how crazy good does that Cam Payne deal look now? Shamet got twice as much as Payne.

I don't know if he's twice as better, but Shamet is better than Payne.

Shamet might make Payne expendable by the end of the season. Hope not, but it could happen.

Well I hope so. I’ll have to wait and see on that.
