I think he said it about Cam Johnson (too).

That's only if he's REALLY mad. Usually it's more like "doggone".Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 2:24 pmI know it's a meme, but com'on, the guy says "friggin".
The only rationale I can think of is that the Suns could lock up a cheaper 5th year then it would otherwise cost them on 4 year max deal that is later extended. One of Hollinger's articles from last fall suggested that most teams want to lock in that 5th year due to the value.Indy wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 2:22 pmI wasn't saying don't match. He’s a RFA. Honor it. Rather sign the QO, find us a sign and trade that improves our team as well, or we match.
DA can leave on his free will in a year. Until then , he has a contractual obligation to us. It’s just good business. We’re not in a position to let an asset just go.

I'm too lazy to run the numbers myself, but maybe someone more industrious could do that.
$41M will be given to bench players by 2026.Indy wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 11:12 amIf the Suns gave him a max deal for 5 years, it would be:Carno wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 7:07 amThe only rationale I can think of is that the Suns could lock up a cheaper 5th year then it would otherwise cost them on 4 year max deal that is later extended. 30.5/32.94/35.58/38.42/41.49 for a total of 178.9M.
Yeah I guess you could say that IF Ayton turns into a top 15 player in the league he could be worth more than 42M in a few years. But you have to really believe that if you are going to give him 180M of guaranteed money and hope he works hard to get better.
Sounds like you are prognosticating that Ayton will be a bench player in a few years.JeremyG wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 11:48 am$41M will be given to bench players by 2026.Indy wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 11:12 amIf the Suns gave him a max deal for 5 years, it would be:Carno wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 7:07 amThe only rationale I can think of is that the Suns could lock up a cheaper 5th year then it would otherwise cost them on 4 year max deal that is later extended. Obviously I'm exaggerating but my point is that it won't just be top 15 players who make over $41 million. It would be a good value for the 5th year, well under a starting max contract.
I would say it's very possible with the league signing a new television contract in 2025.Indy wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 3:15 pmYou really think ~50 players will be making over 41M/year in 2026?
based on what you shared above, wouldn't that mean that there are 50 players making over 30M today? The Bobster wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 7:12 pmI would say it's very possible with the league signing a new television contract in 2025.Indy wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 3:15 pmYou really think ~50 players will be making over 41M/year in 2026?
Book made over 62M this season!?!The Bobster wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 7:08 pmTop ten salaries 5 years ago vs. now -
2017-18
Stephen Curry, GSW - $34,682,550

Paul Millsap, DEN - $30,769,231
Gordon Hayward, BOS - $29,727,900
Blake Griffith, LAC - $29,512,900
Kyle Lowry, TOR - $28,703,704
Mike Conley, MEM - $28,530,608
James Harden, HOU - $28,299,399
Russell Westbrook, OKC - $28,299,399
DeMar DeRozan, TOR - $27,739,975

Stephen Curry, GSW - $48,070,014
John Wall, HOU - $47,366,760
James Harden, PHI - $47,366,760
Russell Westbrook, LAL - $47,063,478

Kevin Durant, BRK - $44,119,845
Paul George, LAC - $42,492,568
Kawhi Leonard, LAC - $42,492,492
Giannis Antetokounmpo, MIL - $42,492,492
Damian Lillard, POR - $42,492,492
Average - $44,843,189
5-year increase - 47.9%
At this rate in 2025-26 the top 10 salaries would average $66 million. And it could be higher with the new television agreement coming.
$38.42 million in 2025-26 is the roughly equivalent of about $26 million now, which I think almost all of us would agree is a reasonable salary for Ayton. $26 million would be equal to what DeMar DeRozan made last year, which ranked 41st in the league. Less than Devin Booker ($30.8 million) and Devin Booker ($31.6 million) made.
Right now there are 40 players set to make $30 million or more this season, and there will likely be a few additions.Indy wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 7:15 pmbased on what you shared above, wouldn't that mean that there are 50 players making over 30M today? The Bobster wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 7:12 pmI would say it's very possible with the league signing a new television contract in 2025.Indy wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 3:15 pmYou really think ~50 players will be making over 41M/year in 2026?
EDIT
sorry, just looked it up. The 50th highest contract is 20.5M this past season. I can't look it up from 5 years ago because spotrac requires a premium membership...
