8. Phoenix Suns (up 5 spots)
Phoenix won three games this week, including holding the high-powered Celtics offense to 94 points in Boston. The Suns reportedly dangled Chris Paul in a potential Kyrie Irving deal, which could have been routine negotiation with no intent to follow through, but it still gives the indication that Phoenix might be looking to make a more major move than simply swapping Jae Crowder for a similarly salaried piece.

Makes you wonder what the FO is thinking working on a trade like that. The talent is undeniable, but maybe Jones knows him well enough to trust him? Would we have extended him? Were Book and/or Monty asked about bringing him in?

It’s just about getting an elite talent on the team. I was surprised at his value too, thought only LAL and LAC would be in on him. Turns out teams will look past a lot to get an elite talent on the team.

Talent aside, and even politics/beliefs aside (which is a big thing to leave aside), I just don’t think you can trust the guy. He’s burned every recent bridge and it’s only a matter of time before he does something insane to torpedo the Mavs. It’s in his nature.

That’s the thing, though. We could have just had him for half a season to try to win a title this year. We didn’t have to keep him around until he caused problems. I trust him in the playoffs more than I trust CP3. That’s what it comes down to for me and I’m guessing for the Suns FO as well.

We’re desperate after 55 years without a championship.

For sure, that’s why we tried to get him as well. I think it shows that James Jones job is on the line. I don’t think he would’ve traded CP3 if Sarver was still the owner

Unless Sarver was desperate too, like when he traded for Shaq.

Ya possibly..just doesn’t seem like a typical James Jones move

Well he did upgrade Rubio for CP3, maybe he felt it was time to do the same thing again. And perhaps he liked Kyrie as a teammate.

4D chess by Jones. He's got Kyrie in the bag in the offseason. Gonna leave the Mavs stripped of talent.
There's also this quote from a few years ago:
“A front office must find high-character, hardworking, and competitive professionals who love the game and want to have team success,” Jones added. “If you have team success, only then you can throw in a selfish individual—or as I call them, a mercenary—into the bunch and be able to withstand it. But if you first build a team full of mercenaries, you’re going to get bad results from a selfish group.”

Everybody "wants" Phoenix, yet nobody is there. Suns are the just pivot man in the media circle jerk.

Seems like Tsai might be a little vindictive and not wanting to send anyone where they want
