My issues are he’s literally caused problems everywhere he’s been and if we acquire him it’s really our only move. We have to sacrifice Ayton and Paul for him. That’s tough…but I’ll say this. Next year is our best chance at a title and I think chances are Kyrie will behave for a year at least. We’d have to nail the small signings to make sure we got enough depth, but wow that would be an incredibly talented top 3…
This is why I can sell myself pretty easily on Irving. I want to win, and this current iteration of the Suns ain't it. I don't see anything that may be available in an Ayton trade that would come anywhere close to what Irving offers. Does he have warts? Yep, absolutely, but they've already sold their future for KD, I don't see just adding around the edges and hoping Ayton comes good as a reasonable scenario.

Warts aside, I don't think we need another primary initiator who's best with the ball in his hands. I'll sacrifice some star power to try and put together a more-balanced roster (3D wings and bigs, scoring 6th man, McConnell-type PG, etc).

Also, fuck that guy. The warts are huge.

Taking on Irving is the closest we mortals can come to selling our souls to the devil.

He will tweet something that makes him miss a lot of games and be a distraction to the team sooner than later.

And then we won't have any depth again.
I'm all for getting some 3D guys, anyone who can make open shots while Book and KD are doubled.

I can root for anyone, so long as they don't do bad things to women/kids or are Deandre Ayton.

Completely agree. I wouldn't want Irving anywhere near this organisation.

I'd sooner take a chance on Westbrook and strengthen our bench.

We're at the point where we'll need to make desperation plays. But I would rather trade Ayton for Trae, who is younger and not a proven case of penile cancer like Kyrie Irving.

I'll throw out some other Ayton trades with Atlanta I'd actually do:

(1) Ayton + something for Trae
(2) Ayton + filler for Dejounte Murray (expiring contract, need to resign) and Capela

If the Mavs want Ayton, make them take CP3, too. Something like:

Suns send: Ayton, CP3
Suns receive: Irving, Maxi Kleber, Javale McGee

Kleber is a great 3-point shooting PF. And McGee is a decent center, though the Mavs want rid of him and it helps them clear his salary off their books.

I'd try to get THJ from them instead of McGee. The salaries match I believe and we need depth for sure, just not sure if Dallas would do it.

Putting aside the issues related to rostering Kyrie Irving, this is the optimal way to do it if it were to happen. Not necessarily those players, but making Dallas give up something to make the deal if they're lacking in leverage.

Coincidently, I have a feeling in my gut that Mat Ishbia is kind of a newer version of Mark Cuban. The enthusiasm and limitless desire to win are admirable, but that's still a fraction of the requirements needed to reach the peak. We've been conditioned for the past two decades as Suns fans to accept the financial limitations of the franchise ownership and I worry we'll be easily intoxicated by splashy acquisitions that produce underwhelming outcomes.

To his credit, I think this is basically what INF was cautioning during the KD trade--with a little seasoning of personal player bias added. I admit that I was caught up in the excitement, which I have no shame for because KD is still the best player to ever wear a Suns uniform to date. Yet there needs to be a well-rounded approach to constructing the roster and coaching/development staff going forward. While acknowledging that he suffered from the Gobert Tax needed to make the KD deal, I would like to see Ishbia be a bit more tactful this summer. If the end result is Kyrie Irving as the Suns starting Point Guard for 2023-24, fine. Just please have some self awareness and be a diligent negotiator.
