Game Day: Clippers (20-12) @ Suns (18-15), Wed 1/3/24

Post by Superbone »

Time: 7:00 pm AZ (6:00 pm PT/9:00 pm ET)
Place: Footprint Center, Phoenix, AZ
TV: AZ Family 3TV, NBALP

The red hot Clippers come to town having won 10 in a row when Leonard plays. Hint: He’s playing. The Suns four game streak is in great danger with KD sitting out due to hamstring soreness.

Just make the Clips work for it. I can accept a competitive loss in this game.

Such a mid squad. Kawhi Leonard, James Harden, Paul George and Russell Westbrook. Ain't no thang but a chicken wang.
What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

For those thinking Durant's absence during the Blazers game was a planned rest, it seems as though this is a legit Injury. I don't see us beating the Clippers without KD but let's see.

Go Suns!

That’s what happens when we run him the high minutes he was running…. It was inevitable.

Bol Bol is a good kid. I'm hoping for the best for him. Of course, that would benefit our Suns too.

12-2 in their last 14 games. Wish the Suns could be mid like that.

Hopefully, we're getting there. Things are looking up at least compared to not too long ago. Plus, pretty sure AIG was being sarcastic.

Clips are playing well lately. They have a not-too-dissimilar team construction to what we're trying to do lately: ~3 stars who can all score and shoot, a big man who can set screens and rim run and help with offensive flow, and a bunch of wings around them to make shots and take advantage of the defensive pressure on the stars. Clips don't really have a KD equivalent, a bigger guy who can still score 30+. And their stars have had arguably even more injury bugs than our big 3 have had. I don't really see the Clips as a team likely to win the title, but they're clearly good and will give us a tough game. I worry that our perimeter defense has been pretty spotty lately, and the Clips could take advantage of that to bomb 3s on us. Also the Clips have one of the league's best coaches in Ty Lue, who will find our weaknesses and exploit them with precision. Too bad we don't have KD available, because it'd be nice to see what we can really do against the Clips at full strength. But I guess if we do beat them, it makes the win all the more impressive.

I would be scared of the Clippers but staying healthy through the playoffs seems even less likely for them than for us.

Yeah I’m not sure many teams have enough talented wing defenders with size to slow them down outside Boston and LAL. They’re tough to defend.

I finally figured it out. Every time I see Grayson Allen I think of the actor that got his legs mangled in the snowplow last year.

Suns look a bit out matched early and again not guarding the 3pt line well, with the Clippers taking advantage (hopefully they cool down after hitting 5 of their first 7).

It's ugly early. Book looks sharp, Beal looks off/flat. PG is hot, Mann has 10 and the Clips just look better right now.
