Game Day: Suns (27-20) @ Nets (19-27), Wed 1/31/24

KD returns to the scene of the crime Wednesday night in Brooklyn in a rare mid week ABC showcase against the Nets. The big question is whether there will be a tribute video or not. Ben Simmons returned to great effect in a blowout win against the Jazz Monday night. Some say he is nothing to worry about. We will see. Won’t we FF?

Yes, we will see why I'm not worried about Ben Simmons.

Tribute video or not, I'm interested to see the overall reception. Kind of a weird tenure there as he played well enough when he played but like he said, didn't really establish a relationship with the fans and the team never really turned itself into much of anything. A lot had to do with Kyrie also but KD is also so aloof that it feels hard to really embrace him.

This Nets team runs hot and cold. Not a lot of talent but Cam Thomas can go for 30 on any night. Mikal can too, but not as consistently. Simmons can be a matchup problem but is already on the injury report with a knee issue. Dinwiddie has 1 good game out 7 it seems. Just hope we're not too drained as this is now the backend of the road trip.

I'm convinced he doesn't want to play basketball anymore. They gave him $200mil when he was 23 years old, it's like winning the lottery.

Ya I don’t think he likes basketball that much…he’s just here to keep those checks rolling in at this point. Wouldn’t be surprised at all if he’s done once his current deal expires.

It's a bummer, because he was fun to watch.

At least our former center plays games. (When it's not too cold. Sorry, couldn't resist! :P )

Well, Simmons can't make much difference for the Nets if he doesn't play. I can't believe he finally came back and is then out the very next game!

I wonder if all the recent Mikal / Rockets trade rumors will have the Nets feeling somewhat distracted tonight. I hope Houston does not trade for Mikal; I want him to languish in BKN for another year or two and then come home.

It could be OKC that has the goods to pull him out of Brooklyn. Maybe the Nets are waiting on the Thunder to up the ante.

Mikal's as good a building block as any. If the Nets could swing Dejounte Murray or Donovan Mitchell, Mikal is the ideal running mate. But they've haven't really laid out a plan for the future. Are they rebuilding or willing to tear it down and start over completely?

NBA basketball is just an avenue for him to showcase his taste in high fashion. After all, he's a Young Socialite with a reputation to uphold.

Who could've imagined that would happen?

The value of Mikal is that he can help and fit on any team in the league. Not that he's a building block, but that adding him to any team will make them better, and you don't have to worry about fit.

This years showing he’s over his head a bit on responsibility. I think he’s the ideal 3rd piece for a contender. He can be the 2nd option on a decent team I think, but that puts a cap on them imo. Probably not winning much.

OK, let’s not pretend like you predicted he wouldn’t play. Our conversation was about his affect on the game if he was playing.

I predicted he wouldn’t matter enough to worry about, playing or not.

I’m with you except for the “or not” part. Here was our convo:

Ben Simmons had a nice return for the Nets with two boards short of a triple double. Which is going to make our next game that much tougher.

Is it? He won't shoot outside of 5 feet. I'm not worried about him in the slightest.
