By the way, the title is actually misleading. It is written like this:

Special Adviser to Managing General Partner and Chairman of Basketball Operations. Lazy journalists shortened it to "Chairman of Basketball Operations."

So. Is he a special advisor to two people or does he have two titles? If he is Hinkie's new boss, the tanking is over in Philly.

I thought that was one person in Philly. Doesn't Hinkie do both roles?

That is the question. Is he the advisor to the Chairman of Basketball operations or IS he the new chairman of basketball operations?

If it is the latter, then they would have announced Hinkie being demoted.

Goddammit.

If there's somebody he should be advising it's Robert Sarver. He's fucking clueless.

Sounds like Colangelo is playing the role at Philly similar to the one Cotton Fitzsimmons did with Phoenix during the dreadful 87-88 season. I doubt that Colangelo has any more coaching aspirations, though ...

Week 6 is over and we finally have an answer to the 6 week long question of which streak ends first, and the answer is the Sixers who finally got a win against the Lakers last Tuesday. They also hired Jerry Colangelo as chairman of basketball ops, whatever that means.

ESPN's week 6 power rankings: LINK I'm sure you all knew we'd take a big tumble after going winless last week. We're down 4 spots to 21, and no longer in the upper half of the league.
If you've been tracking Eric Bledsoe, Brandon Knight & Co., with Tyson Chandler still sidelined and Markieff Morris perhaps headed elsewhere via trade, it shouldn't surprise you to hear that the slumping Suns are getting nearly 25 points per game more from their backcourt than their bigs. Only Portland has a bigger drop-off.

It seems Colangelo will have a big say in things.
"Everyone wants to make the right decision, and ultimately someone will make the call, and Sam is in the position to make the call on the final decision. But that’s after a lot of collaboration and discussions," Colangelo said.

Colangelo, 76, took this job so he could make an impact, and he wouldn’t be with Philadelphia if he wasn’t going to have authority to make decisions. He is a longtime executive, including one-time owner of the Phoenix Suns, and an influential voice across the league.

The 76ers’ rebuilding plan will take a detour under Colangelo. The 76ers still want that game-changing draft pick, but routinely finishing at the bottom of the standings with no end in sight to the losing while trying to get that player is no longer the only plan.

Glad the Sixers fans actually have some glimmer of hope now.

Nash with the Warriors.
Colangelo with the Sixers.

The old Suns would have locked down both of these guys forever. Bobby $aver really blew it.

Yup. Tanking days in Philly are over. I wonder if Adam Silver had any part in this. I could see the league forcing this upon Philly, for the good of the league. Right now, Philly is at the Cleveland Stepien years level.

On SC this morning they were saying that Colangelo had/has approached the Suns and said "Hey, I am in town anyway, use me however you need to." Sounds like Sarver turned him down....

Yeah, I heard that the league played a roll in making this happen. I don't think Philly reached out to him.

The league sent Colangelo in as a "fixer" to clean up the mess in Philly. He is the right guy for that kind of role.

The Warriors just put 44 on the board against the Pacers in Indiana in the first quarter, including a 22-0 run. They are just on another level at the moment

So for the league to step in on the 76ers, do you guys think that is fair? I get that the tanking strategy is awful and it's a drag on the other teams' revenues, but he is essentially playing within the rules of the game... Shouldn't the league set out to change the lottery system instead? Say allow all the teams in the bottom 16 (yes I know this includes a couple of playoff teams) to have the same chance at the top 3 picks, or 5, or whatever, to encourage competition?
