And the impeachment scam wasn’t a scam.
The President asked a foreign government to investigate his political rival.
The President withheld vital military funds from that government to press it to do so.
The President delayed funds for an American ally at war with Russian invaders.
The President's purpose was personal and political.
Accordingly, the President is guilty of an appalling abuse of the public trust.
What he did was not "perfect"— No, it was a flagrant assault on our electoral rights, our national security interests, and our fundamental values. Corrupting an election to keep oneself in office is perhaps the most abusive and destructive violation of one's oath of office that I can imagine.
Mitt Romney
The Senate cleared Trump. That doesn’t mean he was innocent. They didn’t even bother with any evidence or witnesses and Trump blocked anyone in the WH staff from testifying. It was a complete coverup on their side. It was a scam. Trumps scam that Republicans were willing to overlook.

Pelosi and the Dems are saying they'll forward articles of impeachment on Trump if he doesn't resign and if Pence/cabinet don't begin 25th amendment proceedings by next Monday.

Incitement of Insurrection. That about covers it. Get him out, now. Even 2 weeks fewer of him as President will help the country. And let history remember that he was the worst President ever in this country, so foul and vile that we had to impeach him twice.

The fact that he remains in office right now is another failure of our government and elected leaders. Shouldn't wait until "next week". He should've been removed the next day and let Pence take over and transition over to Biden. But the Rs figure it's only another 2 weeks so might as well wait, except it's the gesture of removing him that means something. He lost, he can't handle it, we have a barely functioning Administration. Get him out, get Biden's team in and charge anyone and everyone involved and send them to prison.
If they let Trump, his people and those supporters off the hook, it'll be 10x worse next time.

The thing is, Trump still has the nuclear codes, and he still has full command of our military, national guard, etc. He could still do a lot of crazy things before his term is over. And his supporters are still discussing violence on Parler and other online communities, so the Jan 6 Trump coup may not be the last one we face. There is great danger in leaving him in office.

The Senate won’t take up the impeachment before Inauguration Day, and even if they did they wouldn’t get the 2/3 supermajority required to remove POTUS from office. I’m afraid we’re stuck with him for another 11 days.

He would resign yesterday if the Ds promised to drop every pending legal matter and grant him a full pardon for everything ever.

Agreed. You don't let the guy who incited a coup attempt continue to have control of our country's nuclear codes.

They should promise it to him in a non-legally-binding way and then renege on it and prosecute him anyway.

Popovich even speculated that Trump enjoyed watching the riot, and questioned the lack of preparedness of Capitol police.
“I believe with all my heart that Trump enjoyed it,” Popovich said. “And they talked about the police and how easy it was and the barriers were pulled and they just walked right in. That doesn’t happen unless there’s a wink and a nod somewhere. That just doesn’t happen. It’s never happened at any protest anybody’s ever been to.”
Popovich’s speculation is backed up by Kaitlan Collins of CNN, who tweeted that White House officials were shaken by Trump’s “borderline enthusiastic” reaction to watching his supporters storm the Capitol.

Pelosi sent out a letter today saying that if Pence/cabinet don't invoke the 25th during the day on Monday, the House will convene Tuesday to vote on articles of impeachment. So I guess she's sliding her deadline by a day, but that gives Pence a work day to actually act on the 25th if he so chose. He won't, but still.

exactly, so it is a weak move on her part. You can't sit by and do nothing when traitors attack your democratic bedrock.

Yeah, I think Pelosi is doing it to try to seem reasonable. But really she's just trying to get somebody else to hold Trump accountable, when she holds the necessary authority to do it herself right now.

But if even if he is gone, they can still decide to bar him from holding future federal office. They would need 2/3rds though, and despite him committing insurrection, I doubt there will be 20 or so Senators to vote for it.
