President Biden is the "acting" president because he didn't win legally; Texans should vote on seceding; the Voting Rights Act of 1965 should be repealed; any gun control is a rights violation: this is the world as seen by the Republican Party of Texas, according to its newly adopted party platform.

"We can't compromise with Democrats who have a different and incompatible vision for our future," Matt Rinaldi, the state GOP chairman, said, according to The Texas Newsroom. "We need to be a bold and unapologetic conservative party, ready to go on offense and win the fight for our country."

The Republicans' 2022 platform is outlined in a 40-page document that addresses state issues but also much broader priorities — such as calling for the U.S. to leave the United Nations. Delegates approved it over the weekend, at the party's convention in Houston.

Don't forget how the platform calls homosexuality an "abnormal lifestyle" and talks about criminalizing anybody who helps with an abortion, even by giving advice over the internet.

I think a lot of GOP candidates will do this sort of thing. Claim to be super Trumpy during the primary, then immediately abandon him once they make it to the general election.

They sort of control the house. Republicans have two Democrats on their side who have destroyed Biden’s agenda. The Dems control the Senate?

They absolutely control the House. They technically control the Senate but are unwilling to use that control because of the Manchin/Sinema dynamic.

I don’t know what I was thinking. For some reason I thought the Dems controlled the House just barely and the Senate was controlled by the Republicans. It is looking like the Dems will lose bigly in the midterms. I don’t know what kind of effect Trump being proven to be a total con man, lying, cheating, traitor who attempted a coup with lots of help will have on the mid terms. Probably none. The new Republican party doesn’t believe have a problem with all of that.

I mean the life-long GOP from AZ just told the entire world Trump tried to get him to violate his oath to the Constitution, his faith told him he can't violate that, and so he didn't. But he would totally vote for Trump to be president again. It is fucking insane.

Trump gave them what they wanted and stuck it to the libs. They are willing to overlook the evil parts.

I want to follow up on this because it's important to me not to spread misinformation. A few days back I mentioned a rumor going around on Twitter that GOP Congresswoman Lauren Boebert might have formerly worked for an escort service and/or had gotten one or more abortions. It looks like CNN and others looked into such allegations and found that the group that originally surfaced them was sloppy and misleading. (Note, they don't say that they found the claims to be false, more that the folks making the claims didn't have good evidence for them and that they can neither confirm or deny them.) Here's the article:

https://www.cnn.com/2022/06/25/politics ... index.html
Washington (CNN)A Democratic super PAC has made multiple false claims about Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert while pushing unproven allegations that the right-wing Colorado congresswoman has had abortions and formerly worked as an escort, all of which Boebert vehemently denies.

American Muckrakers PAC co-founder David Wheeler acknowledged to CNN that the super PAC had been "sloppy" and had published "inaccuracies" on its anti-Boebert website, though he said it remains confident in the "main points of the story." His comments came after CNN reporting found that the super PAC had made at least five false statements about Boebert, along with a series of uncorroborated assertions that Boebert says are false and that CNN could neither immediately confirm nor immediately debunk.

Giuliani slapped by supermarket employee, police say

“All of a sudden, I feel this, ‘Bam!’ on my back,” Giuliani told the New York Post, adding that he nearly fell down from the blow.
“All of a sudden, I hear this guy say, ‘You’re a f—— scumbag, you’re going to kill women, you’re going to kill women,’”

As loathsome as I find Rudy Giuliani, I really don't think we should be physically attacking politicians we disagree with when we encounter them in public.

I think a kick in the nuts would have been more appropriate.

It doesn't look like he was "assaulted" or "attacked", rather "patted on the back." I still don't condone touching people in ways they don't want, especially if it's accompanied by a message that you are mad at the person, etc. But the claim that he was assaulted is farfetched.

This story about WI is frightening. The state legislature has basically nullified the power of the (Democrat) governor.

The GOP wants to turn America into a Christian autocracy.
