It isn't just the top 1% or 0.1%. It is that we are as a country (and a world) are extremely dependent on oil. A depleting resource that will only get more expensive. But we don't do big things as a country anymore. We could put the time and energy into developing a huge network and infrastructure of electrification without burning oil or coal, but we are too tied to special interests and our elected officials are too beholden to do anything about it. We need a new intercontinental railroad or new space race. But investing in our future is not what we do anymore.

Millionaires and Billionaires have to eat too! Think of the children! Have some compassion for these lost souls.
Hey, they have a much higher standard of living they have to keep up. You've got to give them a break.

"They make a lot, but they spend a lot too." "This is just an attack on rich people."

Nobody likes the price of gas going up. But we have almost exhausted the planet's supply of it and once it's gone, it's gone. May happen in some of our lifetimes. The smartest thing we can do is to prepare for a post gas world. We need the ability to harness huge amounts of energy from other sources like solar and wind. If we delay this too long, it may be too late.

There are a lot of factors making gas high right now. A lot of people stayed home during Covid and gas prices fell. Now people are back to more normal routines and demand has gone back up. Supply chain problems have caused prices to jack. War with Russia has caused prices to jack and oil producers are making record profits jacking prices.

Electric cars are clearly where we are going on this planet and in another ten years electric cars will dominate imo. All the car makers are clearly going that route. The infrastructure needed to supply those cars with charging stations is being built.

Solar prices for homes continues to fall.

We definitely need something better than solar and wind. Those in themselves have way too many problems on their own.

Yeah, infinite free power from the sun is a horrible thing. Let me know when you come up with a better source of clean free power. Way too many problems? Such as?

You really think it's infinite and free? You think that you don't need to purchase the solar panels and they will last forever? If you know some manufacturing of solar panels that is free and last forever and is done completely eco friendly, please let me know. Especially ones that are efficient enough to power all homes, businesses and vehicles in all times. I may be out of the loop on this one.

Nuclear is a much better and cleaner source of power. Geo Thermal is great for Iceland, and wherever it's available to harvested.

solar is much easier than nuclear, and can be sized as needed. You can't have a nuclear reactor in your backyard or on your roof, or even for your entire apartment building. But you can with solar. And even if it doesn't replace 100% of your fossil-fuel-burning electric supply, any reduction is positive.

Yes, it has some advantages, but it degrades quite quickly in the larger sense. Nothing is perfect, but we also aren't looking to have Nuclear powerplants on the roof or in the backyard of your resident. That's like saying that pools are better than oceans, because you can have pools in the backyard of your house in Phoenix. Sure...technically, that part is true.

Pools are better because they don't have sharks.

This has to be at or near the top of the list as to why pools are far superior to oceans, but you never get Shark Week in your backyard.

We can have multiple energy sources; it isn't either/or. Nuclear is fine to me as a bridge to other cleaner forms of power.

I agree with that, but what's wrong with Nuclear or what is the ultimate cleaner form of power?

My youngest son really likes sharks. He would be down for it, I have no doubt, haha.

You might want to reinforce your fence around the pool. ;)

It isn't that there is anything wrong with nuclear. It is just a multi-year, multi-billion dollar process, not to mention the potential dangers. Then you have to pipe that energy hundreds and hundreds of miles to get to the place you need it. Which wastes huge amounts of the energy created. Like Mori said, it is fine for some areas and as a stop gap, but fission isn't the end-all-be-all of power generation.
